Re: Why Shouldn't I Switch To Linux?

I agree, and after being Windows free for over three years, I would have to be forced to use it now. I think an inquisitive mind also helped. I was keen to learn something new, which at my age is a miracle . You know your old when you have to get an ID card and use a calculator to find your age. Al...

Re: I got fired from my job last week because of my autism :(

I worked at a place for people with disabilities. For some reason, they had me doing customer service work over the phone. I guess because from the skills I have that fit the jobs they have, it pays the most. Somehow, I did well at the lower level, but they required me to move to a higher level and...

"Mine" does - or he ain't my client any more !! Imagine, there is some who don't do backups. Example: Online Shop(!) Can't Determine Card Breach Severity Due To "Lack of Backups" The last available backup dated back three years to April 23, 2015 Source: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/securit...

Re: Wallpaper feel free to use and share

I am using 3 of these in my KDE wallpaper rotations. The Linux Mint is a bit large but works well on my 1920 X 1080 screen. Nice Job! OK thank you! If you want, I can send the file to be manipulated. These jobs do not belong to me and just, leaves a meta-data because, if someone does something like...

Re: fixing Linux Mint 18.3 for Meltdown and Spectre

.. and a doctor never do a backup. "Mine" does - or he ain't my client any more !! Because of the complexity (3rd-party programs) it took a while to get things back in order, but we were back up and running in less than a full day - without paying ANY ransom . I'm not talking about the doctor ... H...

Re: fixing Linux Mint 18.3 for Meltdown and Spectre

Similarly, ransomware hackers usually target well-off companies. +1 Of all my clients and other computers around me the only one that suffered a ransomware attack was the main (server) computer at a Doctor's Practice. The bad guys are looking for BIG-BUCKS, they aren't very interested in me or my h...

Re: fixing Linux Mint 18.3 for Meltdown and Spectre

If I am a hacker able to exploit your unpatched home computer through browsers or downloaded malware, I will be able to view your email passwords and access all your emails. I can then impersonate as your trusted relative or friend and send you an infected email file attachment. This is true but no...

I'm pretty sure they don't want to break the Internet nor do they want to delete your files. They want to Steal your identity, on-line account info and basically anything that can make money hacking with after they have the info. If you read everything then you know about ransom-ware that encrypts ...

Re: Why Shouldn't I Switch To Linux?

If you just want to use either Windows or Mac OS, then it's your choice. Nobody is stopping you, OP. However, I use Linux as an experimental operating system since it's not that compatible with most of my Windows-centric applications. I only use it for testing out virtual machines on VirtualBox, or...

Re: fixing Linux Mint 18.3 for Meltdown and Spectre

The threat of meltdown/specter is the vulnerability that a hacker or malware process "could" gain read access to passwords, credit card numbers, etc. Passwords or numbers may appear readable (in real time) from unprotected (non-encrypted) "holes" inside the CPU's instruction layer. If a process can...
