Re: Installing KDE Plasma on Mint 19 Tara (Cinnamon)

I'm glad somebody said that. I understand all the cautions regarding multiple DEs on an installation but I've been googling away the last couple of days and can't find specifics about what the real problems are (the ones I can't deal or live with). I installed KDE over Cinnamon Mint 19 yesterday. Un...

Re: I wonder - stay with Windows - switch to Linux Mint?

Don't let the terminal scare you. Seriously. Thousands of Linux users cut and paste commands into the terminal when need be. I use it when it is easier, but have not memorized a bunch of commands. People will tell you that it is a necessity, but these days it is NOT. Having said that, I enjoy knowin...

Second that emotion. I can barely spell IRC. Live chat freaks me out.

This is a most excellent forum and for the most part you have to go digging for the hostility common on others.

Re: Nemo: How to sort directory trees by data usage not item count?

I have been using qdirstat on Linux. https://github.com/shundhammer/qdirstat I like the visual representation as well as the ability to work with files directly from the program. This program started as windirstat for some other OS. It has always been free and open source. I started using it years a...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing

In the past few months, I have had similar problems with Cinnamon crashes on my 10 year old HP laptop. There have been several kernel upgrades in that time, and I have found that the relationship between the kernel version, the nvidia graphics driver, and installed applets and desklets is key. My so...

Going Single Site Browser crazy with Chrome

I know. I can't help myself. I use Chrome. The first thing I do after a fresh Cinnamon install is use Firefox to download Chrome. After looking into Ice-ssb for single site browsing, I could not quite get it working. During this quest, though, I came to learn that any page in Chrome can be assigned ...

Re: Grub Customizer: why you shouldn't use it

There are a number of tools I've used of late to configure this old laptop to my necessities and liking. In my situation, I will ALWAYS be a newbie unless I actually carve out some time to master the command line. Such is not my ambition. I have actual work to do. The beauty of Linux is that the sys...

Re: [SOLVED] Desklets Refreshing the Cache error

Jerry,
Just an update.

After a little distro hopping, I reloaded 18,3 Cinnamon from scratch with fresh updates and all, and cache refreshing went as advertised. Now its nice to navigate through all the applets and desklets I don't need and will never use without errors!

It's the little things. :)

Re: [SOLVED] Desklets Refreshing the Cache error

I've been following this thread with interest as I am having the same symptoms. It's not my internet connection as I have been using said connection with abandon installing packages, downloading isos, and, of course, reading this forum. What I find notable is that many others are not experiencing th...

KalEl: Your work is beautiful. You are on the right track and I understand your frustration. Believe me, you may have a diagnosis, but this transition from windows and your underlying reasons are shared by a lot of us. So know that you are not alone. It seems to me you have a clear path to creating ...

Wow! This 10 year old laptop is fun again!!

I'm a little worried (so's my wife) that I'm having so much fun resurrecting this 2007 HP8730W. When the motherboard went to the bad, I couldn't let it go. Poor thing was sitting there in my sock drawer for years. Thanks to a couple ebay donor acquisitions, I finally got it going again. Then wasted ...

Re: Desklets Refreshing the Cache error

Same here. Ever since I installed Mint 18.3 with Cinnamon. I'm assuming it'll be fixed soon, but thanks for posting with screen shots and all, because this was the question I joined the forums for! :)
