Re: LM19 install failure UEFI

I've been trying for a few weeks now to get a dual boot system (NetBSD and Mint) up and running on an HP 6200 MT that supports UEFI and Legacy boot. Here are some of my observations and conclusions that might help others: Both system kernels (NetBSD and Mint) communicate with the FW during the boot ...

Re: LM19 install failure UEFI

If your old Dell supports BIOS booting and your disk isn't larger than 2TB you can force an old BIOS install with LM 19 that should work. You'll need to erase the disk, i.e. blow away any GPT partition setup on it first. This can be done from the installation CD/DVD before you start the actual insta...

Re: LM19 install failure UEFI

LM19 UEFI (both versions) fail to install on a completely erased disk for me. The installer tosses errors on trying to create the grub boot files. I can successfully install if I partition the disk beforehand with GPT partitions allocating space for the EFI, swap and Linux partitions. But then the i...

Re: Hardware issue with USB ports - don't know if it's because Linux somehow?

I'm seeing USB problems on two different systems running Mint 18.3. Corrupted data, infinite data loop reading the same data byte, hung system, slow and unresponsive mouse. The problems occur randomly. One of the systems ran NetBSD for years communicating with one of the USB devices without ever hav...

Re: My Preferred WiFi USB Adapter Won't Keep Working

I strongly suspect the problem isn't with the rtl8812 driver but a problem in the USB software in this version of Mint. I've been trying to track down some USB issues myself and this is what I've observed: First, my USB device is a weather station that ran fine for 3 or 4 years on a NetBSD system. I...

Re: User login list on lightdm managed desktop

Regardless of the conflicts between /etc/lightdm/users.conf and /etc/login.defs for the min and max UID and GID, the values for libvirt-qemu are GID=64055 and UID=131. If either of the config files were actually controlling which "users" are presented for login, libvirt-qemu shouldn't show up.

User login list on lightdm managed desktop

I have 18.3 on my system and installed libvirt-manager. It created a couple of entires in the passwd file for accounts libvirt-qemu and libvirt-dnsmasq. Both entires have UID and GID values outside the range used for login as defined in the /etc/login.defs file. However there's always and entry on t...
