Re: Dropbox...How do I make it work?

I use dropbox as well on Mint. Works fine. When I install it (also from synaptic) I am prompted to also install libpango. When done, I open dropbox from the menu (under internet). The app will download a custom daemon and install it into Nemo for you. I use chrome as my browser, so it comes up, I au...

Re: How to Make a USB Bluetooth Dongle Work with Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia (Cinnamon 3.6.6)?

The easiest way to see the syslog is to use the dmesg command, as in

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep Blue
look for lines loading firmware or for errors of the same.

Re: How to Make a USB Bluetooth Dongle Work with Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia (Cinnamon 3.6.6)?

Can you provide more details? for example what is the manufacturer of the BT dongle? Have you checked the syslog to see what kernel messages are coming up for bluetooth? More than likely the BT dongle uses broadcom chip inside and you will need to get a proprietary firmware for it to work. I had sim...

Re: How to synchronize 2 computers on Local Network

What is it you want to keep synchronized between the two machines? You don't need Samba to do this. The best tool is rsync. It is a great tool.

Re: simplify-ubuntu - Small project to lighten standard Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS installations.

This is an interesting concept. It assumes the person put a desktop edition on the box I guess. What I find interesting is how you determine what to remove by looking for an executable. However, there is to dependency tracking going on. One that jumps out at me is the prompt for GIMP. If a person in...

Re: 18.3 new install bluetooth mouse and keyboard issues

Could you do that and let us know if it worked out for you? Thanks for the tip. Alas, that didn't help either. I have done a bunch of research offline to see if I can figure this darn issue out to no avail. My guess is the version of bluez in Ubunut 16.04 is not compatible with my two devices. On a...

Re: [Solved] Turn off "Fast Startup" in Win10 or enjoy discovering "Welcome to Emergency Mode"

You can turn off fast startup in full control panel power settings in win10. The os will then do a complete shutdown and you can mount the ntfs partition on LM if you want to share files between partitions on same box.

Re: 18.3 new install bluetooth mouse and keyboard issues

Found this blog post that uses Blueman for legacy (mouse in this case) with Mint 18 Thanks again. Just tried this with the connect only option and not attempt to pair. Still does not like me. :( connects and then errors out a couple seconds later. I tried adding trust command before connect and sti...

Re: Fresh Install of Mint Cinnamon 18.3 on laptop no wifi

You are more than likely to be missing firmware for the device. Run dmesg | grep Wire and see if there are messages in the boot up and systemd log to help you figure out what is missing. On my computer it looks like this $ dmesg | grep Wire [ 16.851921] input: HP Wireless hotkeys as /devices/virtual...

Re: 18.3 new install bluetooth mouse and keyboard issues

Yea, that is the strange thing too. Those three messages come up one right after the other when I issue the pair command. No prompt for pin or anything. I forgot to mention I have tried the "trust" trick first before the pair. Same result. Would it be the controller that is the issue or the BT devic...

18.3 new install bluetooth mouse and keyboard issues

Howdy I am new to the forum, but not to Linux. However, new to Linux Mint. Great platform, love the simplicity. I have an issue connection my MS Surface BT Keyboard and MS Arc BT Mouse to my instance. I am running on a HP laptop and the BT controller is intel. I installed the Intel microcode using t...
