Re: Menu Applet crashes on Startup

Can you Timeshift back a couple days? If you don't like it you can always return back to the broken system. Perhaps you can try adding a new user account, and logging in as that? Try running cinnamon-settings-users from the terminal. It could be you may have corrupted something when you edited your...

Re: Menu Applet crashes on Startup

Have you done a system update since installing? If not, perhaps try that as there has been an update to cjs I was sure I had but just in case I ran sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade and rebooted but there is no change (was letting the Update Manager guide me previously, but I'm not sure how ...

Menu Applet crashes on Startup

Hi, problem as stated, the Cinnamon Menu Applet crashes on startup and will not return. Fresh install of Mint 20.1 with Cinnamon 4.8.6. I did spend all day trying to put things back the way I liked them, resizing icons and changing folder preferences, etc; part of that involved me removing just abou...

Re: [Solved]Mint 20 with Realtek RTL8111

Can I just download the zip from that git and transfer it over, and follow the other instructions? I tried it with this one https://github.com/morrownr/8821au but it didn't work. If you'd ever like (or need) to try the wifi driver code that sleeper12 recommends above, do the following: On your Wind...

Re: Mint 20 with Realtek RTL8111

Try restarting everything, router/modem & machine. If that's no good, wait for better help. Holy crap I actually can't believe this worked. I was not hopeful because I was thinking "Well what does restarting my modem have to do with all of the other nearby connections that I'm also not sen...

I'm not the one who can answer those questions. Someone else may jump in here. You did reboot, right?
Yes, I did reboot. That's when the Network Manager added the Wireless switch.

Thanks for trying to help, I do appreciate it.

Re: Mint 20 with Realtek RTL8111

If it helps the command nmcli dev status now lists (in red) wlx00e04c423aa6 wifi disconnected in addition to enp3s0 ethernet unavailable lo loopback unmanaged Pretty sure only the latter two were present when i ran this command previously. Also "lsusb" and "dkms status" and "...

[Solved] Mint 20 with Realtek RTL8111

Hi, having trouble getting my USB wireless device/connection working after installing Mint 20. (Note that I can't set up a wired connection so I have to download anything I need to my Windows machine and transfer it over to the Linux machine via thumb drive.) When I was on Mint 18.03 I used https://...

Re: Video Editing Software

I've used Blender for 3-D graphics, but never as a video editor, so can't comment on that. Chroma-keying is supported on many video editors like ShotCut and Kdenlive. They both run on ffmpeg, so will obviously be faster than Blender. There is always a learning curve for any s/w, but few are as stee...

Re: Unable to Resolve ffmpeg Dependencies/Fix Broken Packages

Did you use this CompilationGuide ? It takes not too long to reinstall - just do Reverting Changes made by this Guide at the end of that guide and start again. It takes about 20 minutes depending on hardware and make -j4 option. You need libgnutls-dev only for the compilation step, it can be remove...

Re: Video Editing Software

I've been using Blender VSE for video editing for about a year. I know it's supposedly not the best thing to use, but I learnt it and liked it and got used to it quickly, and didn't want to learn something else. This wasn't really a problem until recently when my content creator bought a greenscreen...

Unable to Resolve ffmpeg Dependencies/Fix Broken Packages

(Linux Mint 18.3) Pardon all the details but my hope is that hearing the nuances and motivations for all my poor decisions might help somebody understand what's happening better than me, and possibly even be able to shortcut to a solution to the original problem (using ffmpeg to chromakey greenscree...

Re: What is this checkbox?

I'm not familiar with KDE but I was sufficiently intrigued to fire up a Live USB version of KDE Neon which I already had lying around. There are a lot of KDE settings, so it's confusing, and the symbol in your screenshot isn't terribly clear, but if I've got this right then it looks to me as if you...

Re: What is this checkbox?

No worries, thanks for trying. I def tested the "always on top" angle before, but I don''t use workspaces so I was hoping that was it. But I guess not, according to the output...? At this point I'm just surprised that it's not some common slamdunk answer for other users more familiar with ...
