I played around with E for a bit. It's certainly beautiful and much less of a resource hog than any full desktop environment. Support for it is lacking, though, and I didn't find it "intuitive" at all. After a few days of confusion and bewilderment, I came back to Xfce.

The same thing happened with my Brave browser (based on Chromium) after an update last week. I replaced Brave with Chromium (.deb, not Flatpak) and it has been fine. Let it be for now. These things usually "fix themselves" with future updates.

I installed Brave from a PPA and it worked fine until yesterday's update, which did not include Brave. Then it did that weird flashy desktop appearing and disappearing act. I, too, am from a faraway planet. A technophobe from a whole race of technophobes (see my story in my signature), but I ended up making friends with an android and using Linux on two computers! Amazing considering how technology spooks me.

Xfce has a nice little weather applet available as a panel widget.
