Re: Linux Mint without GTK and its inbuilt "save as" anti-feature?

Thanks MrEen. That seems to leave me looking at the KDE version of Linux Mint 18.3 or moving to another distro. The 18.3 is hopefully the smallest learning cliff. And Mint has been pretty much what I need in terms of ease of use, a helpful forum and available recipe-book incantations for the command...

Linux Mint without GTK and its inbuilt "save as" anti-feature? [solved]

Is there a Linux Mint flavour that doesn't have GTK?

The anti-feature of the dual highlighted "save as"/"search for" fields has become unwanted.

Discussion of this "feature" can be seen at viewtopic.php?t=318349

Re: unstable internet. Rollback from linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.216 ?

Yes.
Error in "linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.215 to linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.216"

Update Manager History has
linux-libc-dev 4.40-185.215 to linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.216
with 185.215 both ending in 5, and 186.216 both ending in 6.

Re: unstable internet. Rollback from linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.216 ?

zcot what you write is way beyond my technical level. I guess that that search shows me the list of the current linux-libc-dev packages. That would make sense of Update Manager History showing me that I updated from linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.215 to linux-libc-dev 4.40-186.216 But how to downgrade to l...

[SOLVED] Update: Crystal No description given 0.32.0-1 What is this?

I installed the latest updates that were available.

And was then left with Firefox and Crystal No description given 0.32.0-1 3rd party update dist.crystal-lang.org to install.

Any idea where this Crystal install comes from and why I might or might not install it?

Xfce 19.1 64 bit.

"Refresh" Linux Mint while keeping work files? [solved]

I started using LM about 8 months ago. Most of it works well. My HP printer does not. I do not know what programs I have installed trying to fix this that work sometimes and which programs i have installed that don't work at all. I would like to start from scratch. I am a low-medium-tech-skilled use...

Re: GUI, pdf capable, text-to-speech (TTS) for LM?

The best I can find is a couple of extensions for Firefox which will read pdfs.

Read Aloud: A text to speech voice reader
&
Text to Speech (TTS)

The ability to right-click/Copy can be lost while these extensions are "Enabled".

Downloading and following the long list of easy instructions* from https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip has got things working here. Though whether we had the same problem I don't know. * Note: Screen shot shows previous version number. As I understand things this is not ...

Having experienced the brand-killing responses of some volunteers (not on LM) I know what the OP is addressing. It would be good if mods could keep a closer eye out for non-civil behaviour and make sure new users get treated well. Seems that English was not the first language for one of the volunte...

HP printer: how to get printing from Firefox happening?

A very low skilled user here. I am having trouble printing from Firefox and some other programs on my HP ENVY.
