Re: Screen freezing and usb mouse/keyboard go unresponsive
So i booted into a live session on a USB I had made a couple months back with the most recent version. I was able to run a fsck on the drives, but those came back clean. I also had the same issue then occur with the screen freezing up and nothing responding. Back in the actual install I was able to ...

Screen freezing and usb mouse/keyboard go unresponsive
At first I thought my issue was just the USB crashing, leaving my mouse and keyboard not functional, but it crashed during a youtube video with the screen frozen, mouse and keyboard unresponsive, but sound from the video continuing on, so I think maybe this is a video card crashing issue? Not sure, ...

SOLVED: Wake on lan disabled every reboot
I used to have my computer set to wake on lan. Recently (well, sometime within the past few months. For a while I was using a laptop to bridge wifi to ethernet and assumed that was the issue, but now I'm plugged into an orbi satellite) the wake on lan has gotten disabled. I checked BIOS, and there i...

Re: Mint randomly freezing
You have installed and are currently running Kernel: 5.3.0-45-generic Note that open source drivers such as the Nouveau driver are integrated with the linux kernel. Whenever you update the kernel you may be (adversely) impacted by changes that have been made to the driver. You need to be on guard w...

Re: Mint randomly freezing
I haven't used the Nvidia driver in quite some time. When I had used it before, it caused an issue where my boot would hang upwards of a minute. Switching to the open source driver resolved that issue. If that's the solution I'll switch, but is there information about it causing the boot to hang?

Mint randomly freezing [solved]
My computer has been randomly freezing/having issues. It appears in a few different ways: 1- the screens will have a bunch of black boxes on them. These move around and it all kinda scrambles as I move the mouse. I'm able to get to the menu to reboot when this happens. 2- the screen freezes but I ca...

Re: mdadm raid 1 array won't mount
I looked over everything and I don't know what to tell you :? Did you try doing a check with sudo /usr/share/mdadm/checkarray -a /dev/md0 You can monitor the status with watch cat /proc/mdstat When completed, check dmesg for any md0 messages. If the output identified the faulty device then it would...

[solved] mdadm raid 1 array won't mount
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=295835&p=1645148#p1645148 The short of it is I've got a Nvidia graphics card that doesn't play well with the open source drivers, and every now and again I'll get a checkboard of black on my screen. Its not bad enough I can close out of every...

Mint 19.1 looking for swap at boot, but I don't have one.
When I boot my PC it hangs quite a bit. When I use the down arrow it tells me that it failed to activate swap /swapfile. See 'systemctl status swapfile.swap' for details. When I pop that into terminal I get this] swapfile.swap - /swapfile Loaded: loaded (/etc/fstab; generated) Active: failed (Result...

Re: mint 19.1 not playing sound anymore
That folder is empty. There is also a 4.15.0-20-generic folder that has that .ko file, but there is nothing if I follow the path with the 4.15.0-45-generic folder. Also check dmesg | grep snd to see what it says. That command doesn't return anything. edit- just rebooted and selected 4.15.0.20 in gru...

Re: mint 19.1 not playing sound anymore
Yes to the complete shutdown, not dual booting, but I have had it working on this computer before. RAID was setup when I did the last install, and it was working after that. I tried the force-reload and it said there are no driver modules to reload

Re: mint 19.1 not playing sound anymore
Tried both of those, no dice. Those 3 packages were all installed. I then tried purging them, and then reinstalled them (apt-get install...) along with all of the other stuff they took with them. Same results for inxi -Fxz and aplay -l that I had before.

[solved] mint 19.1 not playing sound anymore
It has worked before, and at some point it stopped working, but I can't pinpoint when. Its sometime in the past 2 weeks or so. ~$ inxi -Fxz System: Host: My-PC Kernel: 4.15.0-45-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 7.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.9 Distro: Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa base: Ubuntu 18.04 bi...

Re: Nvidia 340 driver install failed, now booting to black screen
Any help getting back to the 390 drivers would be wonderful. In a console - sudo apt-get purge nvidia-340 sudo apt-get install nvidia-390 Hopefully you'll already have the .deb files for 390 and won't need the internet (in case it's also busted). Also, I've run quite nicely without any nvidia drive...

Nvidia 340 driver install failed, now booting to black screen [solved]
The 390 drivers cause a slow boot so I wanted to try the 340 drivers to see if they would fix the issues. From the drivers menu i selected the 340 drivers. It tried installing and it said it failed and prompted me to restart. I tried cancelling out od that window so I could select a different driver...

Re: Just upgraded to 19, boot seems to be slowed down
Okay, so in trying to boot into an old kernel, I ended up getting on boot it to show lines in place of the splash screen. one thing of note was an error, cgmanager fails to load. so I searched and came across this https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=274420 and per the second post, I first m...

Just upgraded to 19, boot seems to be slowed down
I was on 18.3 and I upgraded to 19. My boot seems to be slower now. Having searched through some threads about this, I've got some command outputs to share, but honestly I'm not terribly sure what they mean (aside from my system specs). I tried searching the processes that were taking the longest, b...
