Re: Cinnamon crashes after updates but not Nvidia related

Ok, so that gives you all of the packages that were updated over the last couple of weeks. You said you started experiencing problems right after the updates on the 5th. Since you said synaptic is not working, you can't roll those back the way I did. I was actually able to find a tutorial out there ...

Re: No WiFi on Inspiron 6400 with BCM4311 with Mint 18.1, wireless-info attached

I have looked at your wirelessinfo. What do you get when the wired network card is physically disconnected from the network? Linux defaults to ethernet and doesn't try to connect with WiFi when it is plugged in so I cannot see if it is trying to pull an IP from the router or anything else, for that ...

Re: Track users on your Wi-Fi

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with monitoring what is happening on or through YOUR network, whether the users are legitimate or not. Just make sure the users of the network know you are monitoring. Doing so without their knowledge is NOT cool and in some places, illegal. That is all assuming you...

Re: a dumb question

I am assuming you already have Mint installed and you told it to auto-login. The default installation option is to require a password. There are two ways to go about disabling auto-login which turns the password back on. There's the GUI way and the edit a config file way. I'm running 18.3. As I reca...

Re: Cinnamon crashes after updates but not Nvidia related

I have been in this situation before and it sucks. What I learned was that the level numbers in the update manager nindicate known stability. 1, 2, and 3 are stable and fairly safe being "mint certified", "recommended", and "safe", respectively. 4 means "unsafe" (or maybe untested) and 5 would be "d...

Re: Help with Error Message - Driver Manager

Ok, if you are running yhat software and want to receive updates to software, follow all but the last step in the previous post. We aren't going to remove the entry, we're just going to tweak it a bit. Don't worry if you already did, it's just a quick one-liner in a terminal, which I will go over in...

Re: Help with Error Message - Driver Manager

From what I can find, Rodeo, at least the Rodeo at that repository, is an IDE for writing in python and shouldn't have anything to do with NDIS or your wireless adapter. Are you writing python code using Rodeo? Are you using the yhat science platform? Regardless, the "Driver Manager" used to be call...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 freezes on boot-up/shutdown

The change-out of the graphics card--did the problems you were experiencing happen immediately after the change or did it boot fine a few times afterwards and then crash? Is there a chance you disabled the integrated graphics card in BIOS? Does the system boot from a live cd or USB? It COULD be that...

Re: Can not boot up laptop, getting busybox

Was this ever solved? I have run into situations where it was Grub that was corrupted and causing the problem. Running Super Grub and reinstalling the bootloader fixed the problem.

Re: Is Flatpak supposed to take up so much storage space ?

Flatpack and Snap are designed to be workarounds to make pieces of software that have dependency incompatibilities with other programs installed on your system work, regardless of how they are billed. The solution they used for the problem is to kind of sandbox the app away from the rest of the syst...

Thank you. I didn't realize this answer would warrant being moved to the tutorials section. I feel somewhat honored. Since it's going to be in the tutorials section, I have made a few small edits to make it more technically correct.

img4.jpg Check the checkbox next to "Use this connection only for resources on its network". Click the "OK" Button img5.png Click the "Save" button to save the changes. img6.png Now the network is set up so that wlo1 is the default adapter. Re: using a wifi hotspot, and eth0 with teamviewer to allow remote access to router

Once again, I spent a week searching for an answer to my problem to no avail. I posted the question on a forum and found the answer the next day. I started playing with things and realized that the network was defaulting to en0 as its default route to the internet. Then I remembered playing around w...

using a wifi hotspot, and eth0 with teamviewer to allow remote access to router [SOLVED]

I have always said there's no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people asking questions. Now, I feel like a stupid person having to ask this question. I am a long-time Linux user but have never had to deal with using two network interfaces at the same time before. I am working as an indep...

Re: router just with ethernet cable connectivity

The problem with only a few computers being able to connect to a modem/gateway combo is a thing of the past. Don't worry about that. What type of modem/router is it and what is your connection speed? Comcast has been using their gateways to double as Xfinity hotspots for other subscribers so that if...
