Re: Strange display bugs in Firefox window only

No more issue since I've done the little "reset" described above. Quite strange.

Re: Strange display bugs in Firefox window only

In FF preferences, after unchecking "Use recommended performance settings" and "Use hardware acceleration when available", closing FF, reopen it, activating these options again, close/reopen, the problem seems to be fixed. I will follow-up this and mark this thread as solved if i...

[SOLVED] Strange display bugs in Firefox window only

Hi All, Quite strange issue on a new laptop I have for a few months now. When using FF, sometimes appear and disappear these strange squares in the upper left corner (image not edited) : Screenshot from 2019-07-01 19-12-02.png They clearly come and go randomly but it's changing as I move the mouse h...

Re: Interest: Zombieload - Yet another major, exploitable Intel CPU flaw

Thank you all for this useful information and details.

Do you think HT need to be off ad eternam or will some future software upgrades (either bios firmwares or kernel or intel microcode) allow us to re-enable it safely ?

Cpu fan strange behavior

Hi All, It seems that the cpu's fan of my laptop sometimes have a quite strange behavior, cycling from low to high speeds (and making noise) as if it was based on a clock instead of operating normally (fan speed changing accordingly to cpu temp) Two months ago, fan was going high speed quite immedia...

Re: New version of Linux Mint (Have you tried it, yet ?)

I'm testing Cinnamon edition in a VM. Absolutely wonderful. The interface is very, very responsive for running in a VM, looks very promising when it will run on physical machine.

Look and feel and new icons are just splendid. Amazing work.

Will install it as soon as it's released.

Re: Kernel upgrade from 4.4.0-119 to 4.4.0-121 => grub prompt

Hello, karlchen, Thanks for all this information. I finally was able to upgrade without any issue. This time, GRUB menu is as usual after a kernel upgrade, with new default entry for 4.4.0-121-generic and previous versions listed. Only difference compared to the two first tries is that this time, in...

The screenshot above is not mine but a generic one to show the grub prompt I have.

Here is the grub I have on my system :

Re: Kernel upgrade from 4.4.0-119 to 4.4.0-121 => grub prompt

Nope. My /etc/default/grub config file is tuned ( ipv6 disable) since install (approx. 5 months ago) and looks like this, kernel upgrade of the 4.4 series always went fine till today : # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update # /boot/grub/grub.cfg. # For full documentation o...

Re: Kernel upgrade from 4.4.0-119 to 4.4.0-121 => grub prompt

By a prompt I mean this (it's quite the same situation except I did not enter the ls command, but same screen with "Minimal BASH-like line..." text at the top of it) EDIT: please note this is not my own screenshot but a generic one to show the "grub prompt" I face after kernel up...

Re: Kernel upgrade from 4.4.0-119 to 4.4.0-121 => grub prompt

Thanks for your answer.

Actually, I always have had the grub screen with a menu of kernels selection, and indeed, after upgrading the kernel in the past, there is a new entry and all previous kernels, which is perfect.

Now what I have is a grub prompt, no menu any more. That is the issue.

[SOLVED] Kernel upgrade from 4.4.0-119 to 4.4.0-121 => grub prompt

Hi all, Quite strange issue here (at least for the noob that I am) When upgrading my Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia from 4.4.0-119 to 4.4.0-121 (4.4.0-121.145), all seems fine regarding the install's log, but when I reboot, I then face a grub prompt instead of the menu I usually have. Hopefully I was able t...

I've been trough the discussion on linuxquestions.org, and don't know either what might cause your issue, except one idea : Did you check that there is no wireless isolation enabled on your access point / router ?
