Re: Libreoffice normal vs flatpak

I think that the theory is different, the Flatpak (or snap) version of the software will run without conflicting because it will have its dependencies bundled together in a package regardless of the main system    If your question is about the general difference between normal and ...

Libreoffice normal vs flatpak

Side by side the normal version (left and up) and the flatpak version (right and bottom).

First thing I notice is that the theme is different (icons etc). Versions are not the same as the normal is 5.1.6.2. and the flatpak is 5.4.4.2.

Re: I so much want this - MathCast

Looks Like a very interesting program, In order to package it for Linux you would need the source code, Which they have not released as far as I can tell. But if it runs in wine you can still use it on mint. The sources and binaries https://sourceforge.net/projects/mathcast/files/mathcast/ https://...

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS to use Xorg by default

Indeed that is what Mint has done so far. Ubuntu is getting conservative after the project's failure (Unity etc) Meanwhile KDE bucks the trend: It is important to note that new features for KWin on X11 will no longer be developed after Plasma 5.12. Moving forward, only the features relevant to Wayl...

Re: Google ditches Ubuntu for Debian

For optimal ease of use, I recommend the main edition of Mint. Which is still built on Ubuntu. Also, the upcoming Mint 19 series will be built on Ubuntu..... Clearly this is the General Recommendation. I'd be interested though in learning particularly what is facilitated better by the Ubuntu editio...

Another link. https://itsfoss.com/goobuntu-glinux-google/

Lets hope that google contributes patches. Also with debian supporting flatpak, another advantage of Ubuntu, ppa's, gets nullified.

Re: Cannot install Viber

Not surprised, you aren't running a Debian system. Yes, go for the repo version. That's almost always the best choice. One of the biggest noob problems is using non repo software when they don't understand the implications, That must be the flatpak version, right? P.S. Yes it is. Upgraded to Mint 1...
