Does the computer boot normally to Win with ths drive unpugged?
Thank for your reply.
Yes, without problems. The problem is only when I boot from the external USB HDD where I installed LinuxMint.

BusyBox during booting after updating

Hi My desktop: Acer Travelmate 8573TG, with BIOS and Windows 7 64bit. I installed succesfully two yers ago LinuxMint 18 32-bit on an external USB HDD (80GB) and I worked very well up to now. Today I made an update and Linux crashed once or twice. I rebooted, but suddenly I saw on the screen: BusyBox...

Re: ATTN!...Intel CPU owners (Spectre & Meltdown flaws)

Is there something else I can do to enable PTI and mitigate Meltdown on my 32-bit installation or do I have to wait for a new kernel update? You'll have to wait; KPTI(-equivalent) has not been released into the wild for 32-bit yet. Won't take very long at this point: https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/2/9/...

Re: Linux Mint 18.0 Cinnamon 64-bit DVD Live (or USB-key) on Acer TM 8573: Black screen and no boot

Hi. It's a period that I don't have time to dedicate to my problem: so I'm to a stanstill. However I noticed a thing that could be useful to experts. As you know I have BIOS. So, when I launch my working 32-bit version of Linux Mint 18, I should expect to see the BIOS version of GRUB. But, regarding...

@ michael louwe,... Hi Michael and thankyou for answering. I have some preinstalled Acer programs and yes, this could be the reason-why. However I don't have ProSheld. No, I didn't try to install a non-Debian/Ubuntu-based Live Linux: too time-consuming for a newbie like me. But you gave me an intere...

@ michael louwe, ... From this link ... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/519123 , seems like a kernel bug introduced by Debian. Try a non-Debian-based Live DVD/USB, eg Slax puppy. Linux Mint 18.0 Cinnamon 64-bit DVD Live (or USB-key) on Acer TM 8573: Black screen and no boot

Hi. I’m a “newbie” in Linux. In autumn 2016 I tried to install Linux Mint 18 64-bit and, alternatively Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit on a PC Acer TravelMate 8573, with BIOS v1.31. I rightly created either a USB-key or a dvd live. The prove of the correctness is that they worked on an older PC Acer TravelMate ...
