Re: Installing Wine on LM 19.1

Hello, kuzman1. The reason why Wine cannot be installed is that importing the Wine signing key has failed: ave@dave:~$ sudo apt-key add Release.key OK dave@dave:~$ sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ bionic main' dave@dave:~$ sudo apt-get update Get:1 https://dl.w...

Re: Installing Wine on LM 19.1

Further, if you've attempted an installation, you need to fix or remove that before going any further. Open Terminal and run these two commands: inxi -Sr wine --version It's tough to troubleshoot a moving target, so please don't try anything else until we've got a handle on what you have now. I did...

Let's start with, have you checked the Wine database to make sure the Windows app(s) you want to install even run?
yes and I had Wine before on my earlier version of LM when I had that software working on Wine.

[SOLVED] Installing Wine on LM 19.1

I tried to install Wine using the instructions on its website https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu and that did not work. I searched in this forum and got threads that states LM 19 was the OS (not 19.1), followed the instructions and that did not work either. Here is one of the instructions I followed fro...

Re: Black Screen after installing LM 19.1

Thanks THX. Just before I read your post, I tried to reinstall 19.1 again. I didn’t do anything different (I thought) except that I clicked ‘check the integrity of this medium’. Again at the last step when it asks to restart the laptop, I clicked on restart and it froze again. Removed the USB and pr...

Re: Black Screen after installing LM 19.1

Thanks sanmig Does the Mint Live boot successfully I can boot using the live USB. If I boot without the live USB I get the black screen of death. I reinstalled again without selecting to ‘install third party software for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware, flash, MP3 and other media’( one of the first step...

Re: Black Screen after installing LM 19.1

I forgot to mention that I originally had 18.3 installed on the same laptop. I did not experience this black screen of death before. Why I reinstalled 18.3? I had problems connecting to the internet and could only connect via VPN. It was fine until I could not connect at all (with or without the VPN...

[SOLVED] Black Screen after installing LM 19.1

I tried to install LM Cinnamon 18.3 and since I have NVIDIA card, I used the 'nomodeset' option to install 18.3, everything went fine until it asked me to restart and I clicked 'restart', removed the live USB and it froze. I pushed the switch button and I get the LM logo, type the password and I get...

HI kuzman1,

If you already have the newer DigiKam installed, do not worry about the AppImage version.

Hope this helps ...
Yes, I do.
Thanks.

Next step is GIMP vs PS

Re: Best way to install photography software

As I was stating before, I found that trying to get wonderful digiKam's new versions installed in the typical Linux Mint methods was problematic, even on my KDE systems, which is why I have been strongly suggesting that people download and use their AppImage file which contains all the required pac...

Re: Best way to install photography software

Hi kuzman1, Unless you are absolutely required by an employer, or school, or other institution, to use MS Windows, or there is some very unique software that will only run in MS Windows with no Linux alternative, then you do not need to install or use MS Windows either in Virtualbox or dual-booting...

Re: Best way to install photography software

I will try darktable as a first step. The Resources & Links page on the darktable website has links to several screencasts. The ones by Robert Hutton are especially good. He takes a workflow approach to demonstrating Darktable, and he shows the steps he takes to process an image. Most are worth wat...

Re: Best way to install photography software

You can not, unfortunately, legally use the Windows 10 that you had on the laptop in a virtual installation if it was as an OEM install to the laptop. This may seem silly and unfair but only a full retail copy of Win 10 will install and be possible to register on your virtual hardware as an OEM ver...

Re: Best way to install photography software

Thank you guys for your responses and guidance.
It sounds like I should try virtualbox first and see where I go from there.
Is this is still the best way to do it?

Best way to install photography software

I installed Linux Mint about 2 years ago. I enjoy using Linux and never thought I would need a bad OS like Windows again - until now! When I got my laptop 2 years ago it had windows 10 preinstalled but never activated. I installed Linux Mint as a fresh installation, no partitions. I can live with li...
