Re: Does anybody still use DVDs?
Well if I was going to give someone a copy of Linux and he doesn't have a flash drive, then I will give him a DVD copy. I do watch DVD movies once in a while from Redbox.

Obviously. He didn't even realize it would become his full-time job!! (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) I recall that and went looking for it because I thought it was the understatement of the millennium but I couldn't see it. Maybe it's time for new spectacles... Speaking of G...

Re: How often to run BleachBit
One more reason to have a separate root password...so the common user can't install potentially destructive apps... Saves me some grief Seriously, it is not a tool for the beginner. Personally I don't think it helps anything, Linux systems are usually pretty clean I've used it like once or twice an...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?
You should never have to think about your operating system unless you want to think about it. You should just be able to turn it on, and get to work (or play). I think that is what most people find annoying about linux, is that it is still an enthusiasts operating system. Sort of like guys who cons...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?
The main reason I never gotten a FB account to begin is that I notice it is too easy to post very personal information that you normally wouldn't give to strangers.
And of the above post is good now to cancel it if I had one.

Re: $200 Laptop @ Best Buy - Will it work with Mint??
You might be better off looking for a second hand ex-corporate laptop, such as a Thinkpad T430. For about the same money you will get a much better machine, certainly a much faster processor. Personally, I'd never buy a second-hand laptop.... Desktop: fine. But not laptop. Reason: laptops consist o...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?
Adding my own thoughts in here, some folks don't really want to learn anything different or even read a small amount of documentation no matter how little or easy it is to actually read even to learn how to do basic tasks. Another issue is a lot of new users assume Linux does things as the same way ...

Re: Installation? Thanks Raspberry PI !
I have 2 Raspberry Pi's that are able to run several flavours of Linux. However these distro's are specifically built to run on the Pi's. The issue of Mint not being able to run on every PC is evident from the posts here requesting help, or identifying problems. Luckily for me Mint 19 works perfect...

Re: Why
I think the OP should have done some research about Linux and Linux Mint before he decide to check out Linux. And yes you can use Linux as a gaming platform. I do it quite well with most of my games on Steam and a few from GOG.com. The thing is, is that Linux does require the beginner to be willing ...

Re: New user worried about Microsoft
Even if this were to happen, LM can turn directly to Debian as its base, ie bypasses the M$-owned Ubuntu. Linux users can also opt for non-Ubuntu-based distros, ... https://itsfoss.com/non-ubuntu-beginner-linux/ Which would be sad, if it were to happen. Cuz non-ubuntu (non-debian) based distroes ar...
