Re: Mint 14 looks good but for the exception . . .

Thanks. I saw the drivers are the same one I got last night. The problem is getting the the right one extracted where it can be selected as the driver. The documentation is not helpful in this regard....or at least not to me. I can get the file extracted to the .deb level driver but it fails to conf...

Mint 14 looks good but for the exception . . .

That my Canon MF3010 sits useless on the sidelines. I searched around here and noticed that Canon does not put out any effort to support Linux but they do supply one on their USA website which I did not know how to install. 14 did plug in a Canon driver automatically but it did not work. Should I ju...

Re: LMDE to Katya----old issues fade, new ones take place...

You know, I really hate to ditch Linux but these problems are perplexing. The bookmarks thing seems to be fixed because I saved multiple formats and somehow an Opera bookmarks file didn't have an extension! But that was in Katya so it really was really my muff. I'm thinking this Intel video and the ...

Re: LMDE to Katya----old issues fade, new ones take place...

In utter frustration I installed Ubuntu. This thing is like grammar school. Very few options and my favorite Opera is not available. BUT, what the hey, even using Firefox I get the periodic video blink to black. Again, the generic video driver came up and I had no choices. There must be something wr...

LMDE to Katya----old issues fade, new ones take place...

Well, some of my old problems went away but now I have new ones with Katya" 1. Can't detect my monitor and have to use "generic" driver 2. Video blinks or hiccups to black screen and come back on after a few seconds to minute! Does not do this when in XP. 3. Can not save bookmarks in Opera or Firefo...

Re: Is LMDE worth it?

MORE WWOOF CRAZINESS. Yesterday I felt frisky and using the live 201012 disk I pulled up Gparted. Took a look and decided that if I'm totally dead in the water why not have some fun. I never created a swap partition because I use a SSD so I did that. After running it the mount point for ML disappear...

Re: Is LMDE worth it?

Well, I got my control center back last night! Thanks, guy. Made a few changes and downloaded some updates. Got up this morning and NOTHING! No GRUB, no nothing but a message idling DHCP _ _ _ _ _ / I am using the live version of 201012 right now and am planning on ordering a new distro. Thinking ab...

Re: Is LMDE worth it?

Just an update: The Control Center issue has been around for a while. It is on the menu but nothing is linked to it. I have searched for it but not in terminal mode. I am using Gnome and my wireless went out the window during the last big update which gave me some sort of failure message. I have ord...

Is LMDE worth it?

I got in on the first release of the 64-bit version which was heavily updated after that. In the past year I have lost my monitor settings ONCE AGAIN, my CONTROL CENTER has completely disappeared (no way to adjust mouse), and my WIRELESS was kicked to the curb in MINT and in XP!!! I have had to go b...

Debian Weirdness....

I posted here and in chat months ago about losing my screen resolution. It became set at a default 1024X748(?) and nobody had a fix. Well, last week we had a brown out and my computer died in mid-session. When I restarted it booted back up and the old, preferred resolution WAS THERE! In fact, the di...

Re: Yikes! UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY . . .

WOW. I just did a search and found this is not some "mysterious" error message. After just browsing through a few quick posts I found the magic cmd:

sudo fsck -y /dev/sdax

x = your designated partition number.

I'm back in action....what a scare.

What causes this?

Yikes! UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY . . .

Got his message yesterday and have been going in circles trying to resolve it by following the directions on screen. (I dual boot between XP and Mint Debian so you know where I am writing from right now.) The initial message: /dev/sda2: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY fsck died with exit...

Re: Lost Monitor Resolution

Wow, that some line of code. Even though I update daily it downloaded 40MB of files. But still no change to the 'unknown monitor' situation. Detect button depresses for a moment and no changes occur. Is it possible that a newer driver went in that no longer recognizes my monitor? Since Westinghouse ...

Re: Lost Monitor Resolution

Checked history and I deleted VLC on 2/28 as it seemed to be acting up when I tried to use it. I also noticed that whenever I tried to view youtubes that the first video was fine and the rest were red tinted. This continued after I removed VLC. I reinstalled VLC on 3/8 and the red tint on youtube co...

Lost Monitor Resolution

I've been using this version since the beginning and not had any problems until just recently. One day I powered up and suddenly the resolution for my monitor was set at 1024X768 which is a much lower resolution than I was using. The 'monitor detect' button does nothing. I dual boot with XP on the o...

Strange, my monitor resolution was just fine until yesterday when I got the same screen you did with the same resolution. It's like it just went away.

Re: Outsmarting Grub2 . . .

Not ONE suggestion from you pro's? What is this? :? Well, for giggles I decided to go the with latest disk instead of the first. So, I started the install and noticed that NFS was the root so I made it boot and installed it to that partition. Afte rall, XP was laid down first. When it came to the qu...

Outsmarting Grub2 . . .

Ok, I used Mint 6 for quite a while until I read about LMDE. I liked the rolling update idea so I got the 201009 disk (disk 1 for x86) and loaded her up. Everything, including Grub, worked fine. Then the 12/24/10 release came along and I spent several hours watching my box download the 'new stuff'. ...

Re: SSD installation

How can you tell if swap has been utilized? I took a usb flash drive and formatted 2GB as swap. I don't know if outboard swap will work so I would like to see if it had been used. I am using a SSD and that's why I decided to try an outboard approach although articles I have read recently have downpl...
