Re: No grub, only a black screen

During the installation did you make sure to install GRUB on the second partition of your HDD (2 524MB 628MB 104MB fat32 EFI system partition boot, esp)?

Re: Ubuntu Software Center

The software center only represents you the available software for your distribution. But since Linux Mint uses Ubuntu's repositories, you get the exact same programs on both operating systems. Whether you search for them inside the Mint Software Manager or in Ubuntu Software Center will give you eq...

Re: Change panel-menu effects (make it look like current GNOME's)

So, I need to change the code and recompile Cinnamon? Or is it a settings file that can be modified on the fly? Have you tried adjusting settings in the Cinnamon Effects settings module to see if you can get satisfactory experience? Specifically turning off 'Effects on menus'. https://i.imgur.com/E...

Re: Change panel-menu effects (make it look like current GNOME's)

Which is the file that handles the menu effects? I will try to replace it with Cinnamon's 3.0 js file to see if I can revert back the smooth effects. You can't do that. It is way more involved. Part of the reason it was changed was to remove a lot overly complex code for drawing and placing the poi...

Re: How to reset cinnamon?

If possible, you can right-click on a panel > Troubleshoot > Restore all settings to default.
It will not delete your themes, but it will reset Cinnamon to its default settings.

Re: Change panel-menu effects (make it look like current GNOME's)

Thank you for your interest. Take a look at this video: https://www.linuxmint.com/pictures/scre ... _menus.mp4
I wonder if this effect can be reverted to the previous animation that Cinnamon used for its menus, as seen at 1:52 on this video: https://youtu.be/ToFhMxgoFFg?t=1m52s

Change panel-menu effects (make it look like current GNOME's)

Hello community! The new effects on Cinnamon's panel menus - that look like KDE's (introduced in cinnamon 3.2 if I am right?) have always been choppy on my system, ruining part of an otherwise fluid experience with my desktop. I have been wondering if (and how) this could be changed in any config fi...

Re: KDE5 is still disaster

I have a somewhat different experience with KDE. Apart of having to disable baloo because of it eating up all my system's resources, most things went smoothly until it completely broke itself for no reason. After using KDE periodically for years, I have to say that it's more unstable/complicated tha...

Re: Cinnamon Desktop Less GPU Intensive than Windows 7 Pro?

Xfce is not as memory intensive as Mate or Cinnamon. For a device with these specs I wouldn't try anything not based on xfce or lxde, so my vote goes for Linux Mint Xfce. :D

Re: Linux Mint XFCE close to KDE's end?

To be honest: I did not visit the main page of linuxmint.com since years. Why should I? I go directly to the subdomain of my interest. So it might be, that the page did look somehow different, but drawing conclusions out of a page design gives nothing than speculations. if you want real information...

Re: Linux Mint XFCE close to KDE's end?

There is also no "thumbnail" for lmde. Does anybody believe, that Clem writes (in October's blog) about LMDE3 and than gives it up silently? There is also not "thumbnail" for the forum. Who does believe, that it will silently die? There is a page design, which gives room for 5 of those thumbnails, ...

Re: Linux Mint XFCE close to KDE's end?

I have no idea, about which "thumbnails" you are talking. But quite obviously Xfce and Kde editions are listed on the download page as they had been there for years. Sure, it's obvious that everyone can currently download whichever edition they want. Just being curious about xfce not even been pres...

If there were plans to stop putting out Xfce editions, this forum probably would be on fire. BTW, I have no idea what thumbnail you're talking about. Everything there looks the same to me. That makes sense. I'm talking about the main slideshow which usually contained the 4 Mint editions for easy do...

[SOLVED] Linux Mint XFCE close to KDE's end?

Hi community! [Sorry for the dead revival subject here] I'm using Linux Mint as my primary OS for a good 7 years now, and I totally love it. So after the announcement of KDE's flavor abandonment, I was curious to see if XFCE would keep up with Cinnamon and MATE releases - even if it's a GTK-based DE...
