I'm assuming Windows here :) Sorry if I misunderstood :( Have you looked at -> https://portableapps.com/development -- you might get an idea or 2. Or here -> https://www.portablefreeware.com/faq.php -- check (search) the forums for various wrapper portability ideas. There are various utilities used...

Re: Decision Time

Since we can't provide no more than an opinion, only you know what's best for you... If it were me, assuming my Windows OS hdd is in good working order, boots fine and all, I would yank the Windows drive out, and set it aside, store it away in a safe place (properly marked HP HDD Win10x64)... whatev...

Re: Why am I getting a Netgeor Login page?

I have a Netgear router and either 123.456.7.8 or routerlogin.net are used to set it up or make adjustments using the firmware or website software - possible you may have forgotten something in the past year or two. I don't know if anyone can tell you why a link is in your browser. If you tried it h...

Re: Swappiness change

Do you think with a swap partition of 2GB it's enough for my computer to work well? I have adjusted the swappiness to 30, since I tried to decrease it to 10, but started to work slower everytime I oppened few apps. Do you think if I make a swap partition of at least 4GB that would make my compuer r...

Re: Swappiness change

Hi toolrick As has already been mentioned, the size of your swap file/partition (2GB, 4GB, 6GB, etc) is different from how often (frequent) data is written (60, 30, 10, etc). You might say it can be compared to a 2 gallon, 4 gallon, or 6 gallon fuel tank, and at what rate it gets emptied, 10 minutes...

Re: Solved (quickly!) - Firefox browser preferences question

<snip>...<snip> Thanks for that. I found using the "compact" did give me a little bit more viewing real estate. However, I can't find the first one you mention. I'm not sure what Firefox portable is, but maybe the standard Firefox does not have this option? Hiding the title bar and making the tabs ...

Hi KamenRiderNecro Your Z580 is tricky due to possible BIOS issues specific to it, you will need to be more specific about what exactly is going on... First: Is there a NOVO button on your machine? Does it offer BIOS, Booting, and Recovery options when pressed? Also: Can you get into the BIOS to mak...

Re: Solved (quickly!) - Firefox browser preferences question

Out of curiosity I installed Firefox 58.0.2 portable and looked to see what else could be done. In "Customize Firefox" unchecking Title Bar gives back some space, also, under "Density" selecting "Compact" shrinks the tab height just a scosh more.

Just some FYI :)

Chrome looks "maximized" (not fullscreen) - what happens when you click "maximize" in Firefox?

In FF 56, when I click "maximize" this is what I get, the tab goes right up to my taskbar...

So when I use the Search Topic box next to the NEW TOPIC button I type in,,,,,how to become root,,,or just,,,, root. What I get, is every post ever written that contain these words, how, to, become, root. When all I am looking for is, "how to become root". This is most frustrating. Wouldn't be simp...

Re: LM 18.3

Most download managers I've used have the ability to paste a checksum directly into the GUI and can run a check after the download finishes -- popping up a message with a mismatch or failed warning if the download is corrupt. If this isn't available to you, in Linux Mint (I think) is the sha256sum p...

Hi NoahVale I think you and I may be in similar situations, I hope your experimenting is successful and you can make the switch with few hiccups. I think MInt is very user-friendly, and not really any different than moving from one MS OS to another. Mint is pretty intuitive. If by chance you have se...

Re: Can I install Linux Mint on this old PC?

Hi ovisergiu On your Vista machine, if you go into Control Panel - System and Security - System, and look at the "System type" section you should see something like 32-bit Operating System, x86-based processor - in this case download a 32-bit (x86) Linux distro, if your machine has a x64-based proce...
