Re: Virtualbox 5.2.22 Guest Additions + Cinnamon + Software Rendering

Thanks for the reminder, kato. I will eventually have to go with 6, but I'm always concerned about major upgrades of VB breaking my existing VMs, like you are experiencing. Hopefully the bugs will be worked out of it. If I can't run Windows in it, VirtualBox won't be of much use to me.

The test build of guest additions worked for me too. I was struggling with this problem for some time. Thanks, smurphos. You were a big help.

Have you tried to repair the master boot record using a Windows disk?

Re: Computer freezes after screens turn off

I had a similar issue with Mint 18. I never discovered what the cause was, but what worked for me was making sure the screen did not shut down at the same time as the screensaver started. In other words, setting a delay of at least 15 mins between the two. I don't use suspend, so I don't know if tha...

Re: Multiple errors installing Wine

It is my understanding that the mono package is needed for Wine to function properly. At least it was for my setup, running the same kernel as you. I let them both (mono and gecko packages) install during Wine installation and everything runs fine.

Re: Encrypting Files Question

Like Mattyboy, I use two methods. One for encrypting my home partition (during OS installation), and Veracrypt for backups to a flash drive.

Re: LM17.1-64 how to set Monday as first day of week, not Sunday

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but you could use another app. Osmo, for example. Maybe the setting isn't available in Mint17.1. It works in 18.2 Cinnamon.

Re: Cloudflare, Mozilla, and DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH)

I just switched to Cloudfare's DNS service. Thought I would give it a try, based on their reports of increased performance and better privacy. So far, so, good, although my perceived faster browsing might be a bit of a placebo effect. As for security, I know that requires believing everything Cloudf...

I posted before reading your post. My bad. I'm learning something new all the time on this board. Thanks for the info.

Re: Timeshift-Snapshots

I have to agree with sdibaja . I have used Timeshift like I used to use System Restore in Windows-to repair a hosed system, not to restore to a fresh install. Maybe it can be used that way, but I didn't think so.

Nice find, pbear. I'm pretty sure that is the very tutorial I used to install Android-x86. It is very well done.

Re: Any method to run Android Apps in Linux?

I've had success running the x-86 version of Android using VirtualBox, though to be honest I don't use it much. Also, I am unable to run the machine in full-screen mode. Not sure why, but I believe it is related to there not being a guest-additions available for it.

Re: VirtualBox in seamless mode

VirtualBox version 5.1.30 should work fine with the 4.13 kernel. It has for me with Mint 18.2 You might want to give it a try.
