Re: Lutris is laggy

Changing kernels, drivers, distros, launchers won't help
There is no AMDGPU / vulkan / dvxk support for this card.

If you're stuck with it and there's nothing else you can do,
surely Windows (directx) can extract more juice from it.

Re: flatpak questions

It seems you can install flatpaks only in your own userspace and not necessarily "system-wide" with the --user option. You start from scratch by adding flathub as source only for your user. flatpak remote-add --user --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo And a...

Re: Linux Mint System Requirements Compared to Windows

The notion of "system requirements" is kind of unclear in this thread. OP found LMDE's requirements lower than expected while attempting to run a game in "mGBA". OK. Can this set a meaningful paradigm for anyone else? Most users do not use their OS for that. They usually want to ...

Re: Flatpaks - How can I get rid of them totally?

Apt is a very sloppy package manager. Seriously. The number of times I've had to deal with arbitrary locks... and then worst of all, when you want to install a package to use a specific program, and it practically installs another desktop environment along with it just to meet all the dependencies....

Mozilla devs respect freedesktop guidelines... partly... in an eclectic way.
Temporary files from sites etc go to "cache".
Everything else is inside ~/.mozilla.

Hey froggr. Welcome to Mint forums. I understand that at least once you booted to Mint with success after installation. You installed updates and then next time... kaput. We've seen a frustrating number of threads lately on this forum with people that cannot boot after installing latest 5.15.0-112 k...

They had a long discussion and they voted for it
Those who couldn't swallow the result of the vote broke away from Debian and formed Devuan.

Re: low res graphics ATI AMD Radeon HD 6670

Some of the oldest radeon cards, much older than the cards you have mentioned, are still supported in Linux. It is a question indeed how good the driver is but usually the problem you suffer from has to do with VGA not transmitting the correct EDID info about the monitor on Linux. You can put any ca...

Re: Newbie connecting Toshiba Satellite to Sony A8 TV via HDMI

HDMI port for a laptop in 2009 was quite a feature. Not even mainstream dedicated GPUs gave you hdmi back then. VGA + DVI was the norm. Is (like) this your Sony TV? Your Toshiba's Radeon chip cannot support but a HD resolution. Cannot imagine it rendering 3840x2160 in any conceivable way. Could it d...

"Tray" on the right side meant for classic tray icons and cinnamon applets is a different thing from the app launchers on the left. Icons have different size, are not interchangeable. You want Update Manager in the app launchers area? Go to Menu, find Update Manager, right-click on its ico...

Hello nolde432 and welcome to Mint forums

This means that you were able to boot into Linux Mint previously/initially, right?

At grub bootloader screen select with your keyboard arrow keys "Advanced Options" and try to boot with an old(er) kernel.

It won't be easy for sure. You'll have to compile it yourself. You may not be able to compile it successfully or compile it at all. Debian maintainers have not yet built 1.28 for Debian Sid upstream. Ubuntu Mate - best ever Mate distro imho- 24.04 released with... 1.26.2. In fact 1.28 does not seem ...

Re: Steam Proton games not launching

Your problems are related to your distro's age but not to default kernel or gpu drivers necessarily. The main problem with the "Ubuntu focal" base of Mint 20.x is libvulkan=1.2.x. You need libvulkan=1.3.x <--- This is the "bar" to take advantage of Proton 8.0+, dxvk 2.3.x+ while ...
