Re: Mint - Executable Files

The tar.gz format nowadays is just for "distribution" is not an installer. If among the extracted files there is an installation script (usually coming with a .sh suffix), you should use this to install the "software" at issue. Is this the case? There were no instructions on the ...

Re: When I start Linux mint it sends me to GNU grub with command lines

Hello nolde432 and welcome to Mint forums
...when I now start Linux mint...
This means that you were able to boot into Linux Mint previously/initially, right?

At grub bootloader screen select with your keyboard arrow keys "Advanced Options" and try to boot with an old(er) kernel.

Re: Mate desktop 1.28

It won't be easy for sure. You'll have to compile it yourself. You may not be able to compile it successfully or compile it at all. Debian maintainers have not yet built 1.28 for Debian Sid upstream. Ubuntu Mate - best ever Mate distro imho- 24.04 released with... 1.26.2. In fact 1.28 does not seem ...

Re: Pipewire - get latest stable version?

@ahpl I simulated installing pipewire from bookworm-backports and it didn't return any dependency-related error message. My guess something else is happening that prevents this installation in your system Post your system specs or at least inxi -r or simply check your software sources @BrianI Pipewi...

Hey Zir-Zoink and welcome to Mint forums Win98-themed Mint? OK but neofetch screenshot is not going to cut it. It's an amusing gimmick not a true system report in our books. Post your system specs: System Reports --> System Information --> Press the "Copy" button --> Paste. This way you'll...

Re: Steam Proton games not launching

Your problems are related to your distro's age but not to default kernel or gpu drivers necessarily. The main problem with the "Ubuntu focal" base of Mint 20.x is libvulkan=1.2.x. You need libvulkan=1.3.x <--- This is the "bar" to take advantage of Proton 8.0+, dxvk 2.3.x+ while ...

Re: Keyboard shortcut always loads media player

Welcome to Mint forums, jrutley It is good idea even for small things to post your system specs . For example we don't even know your desktop environment, Cinnamon, Mate or Xfce. In Cinnamon Shift+Super+S is actually the shortcut to the sound menu in the tray area which btw incorporates controls for...

Re: Is MakeDeb a default part of LMDE 6?

No, it isn't part of the default system software source, it isn't part of either Debian or Mint official repos. It is a third-party repository for a tool aiming to build "debian" packages for developers of software if I got this right. And with regard to your previous thread, neither Debia...

How did you manage to install any variant of Mint on Raspberry Pi?
Mint team has never supported the arm64 arch only amd64 (and still supports i386 with LMDE 32bit).

Re: How do I clear VRChat cache

If you know the name of the file or folder, try find or locate in Terminal Otherwise since VRChat doesn't seem to be natively supported: /home/<yourusername>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/438100/pfx Dig in there. "User" data / saves usually are inside "steamuser".

Re: root permission to authenticate eg synaptic

I'd like root password, PLEASE; as an extra layer of security If you want to keep your "user" as "sudoer" there's not much of a security safety belt to add with an extra root account. If they manage to obtain your "sudoer" credentials, they can pretty much do enough ha...

Re: How to dual boot fedora and linux mint

In principle you point Fedora installer to re-use without reformatting your existing EFI partition and install all the rest in your unallocated space. Nevertheless, create an account in FedoraForum.org and ask fedora users about that. They should know better. "Anaconda" (Fedora) installer ...

Re: NTFS as /home partition

You'll have to go into considerable lengths in order to sort file permissions out and then you won't be safe from bugs and inconsistencies when both Windows and Linux will use (write/read) the same files in the same folders. Resize / shrink your Linux partitions. Give Windows the storage space it re...

The article is not from 2002 but from 2022. There was not any Mint in 2002  And Mint can be installed offline with no problems. Extra codecs can be installed offline as well. Only the proprietary nvidia driver is not available. I'm not sure about other "restricted" stuff. I recall I c...

Re: Error booting after removing Windows and swap partition

"Best" manual partitioning depends on your usage, needs and experience with Linux. I would without second thoughts advise you - at least for now - to retain Mint installer's defaults. Since you're not going to dual-boot let it "erase disk and install Mint". It will create a small...

Re: How will drivers update?

You apparently have the nvidia-driver package from Ubuntu repos.
You will receive updates with security fixes like any other distro package.
But when Ubuntu offers -let's say- a package of coming 555 driver you'll have to use Driver Manager or the terminal to upgrade if you want to.

One way to test is use another keyboard or test on other Linux machine for confirmation What deepakdeshp said.
