Re: gdebi - where did it go?

gdebi exists and gets installed OOB both in main Mint Cinnamon and LMDE. Gui is available when you double-click on a .deb file. At least this is the default app association. It is just not selectable in the menu (in LMDE at least). I bet for the reasons you've seen. Gtk gui throws an error message w...

Assuming that all installable .deb files are extracted in the same folder.
Right-click inside the folder --> "Open in Terminal" --> sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Re: Cannot Connect to a Website- Requires HSTS Connection

Not that I have any idea what's going on, "Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.moritzjung.dev because this website requires a secure connection" sounds like an oxymoron to me, but that site is definitely accessible from where I am, my uncomplicated home...

Re: Ruined both my mint/W11 boots

Necessary first step IMHO is having USB sticks with installation media at hand, Windows and Linux. For example, boot into your Mint installation stick to obtain a full system report, run some commands like efibootmgr ; mokutil --sb-state ; lsblk -f and paste the output here or post some screenshots ...

Re: copying 3TB extremely slow

If in these 3TB of data you have a lot of small files, it will be painfully slow regardless of other factors.
Speeds depend on free space availability too when you copy from a filled disk to one that's getting increasingly full.
Now add a CMR unit in this picture...

Re: Microphone on my headset not working on Linux Mint

Hey stream030 and welcome to Mint forums Putting that block of text from alsa-base.conf in "code" tags would have made it readable to forum users. Besides this, alsa-base.conf is I believe irrelevant to sound settings in Mint. Make sure your PC case supports trrs ("combo") 3.5 ja...

Re: VLC not playing DVD/CD

Test another video output in VLC. Preferences --> Video --> Output. Default is "Automatic". Let's say start by trying "XVideo output". This mode in my main system leads to software rendering, while "automatic" defaults to VDPAU hardware rendering.

Re: Grub Windows UEFI entry

@JeremyB This is not needed on Linux Mint
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false is set in /etc/default/grub.d/50_linuxmint.cfg
@ Tirofog
When you set "Windows Bootloader" as default in UEFI/"Bios" settings instead of grub, can you boot into Windows?

Re: No Wifi on ROG Zephyrus G15

Your system report shows wifi adapter is detected but no driver is loaded for it Things to try: 1. apt policy backport-iwlwifi-dkms if this package is installed, remove it. Reboot. 2. Replace OEM kernel with standard 6.5 kernel in Update Manager. Reboot. 3. Force reinstall linux-firmware sudo apt re...

Re: VLC not playing DVD/CD

Post your system specs

Then, try to open a DVD with vlc in Terminal:

vlc dvd:///dev/sr0

Information printed out can help you find the cause of VLC's crashes.

Re: Going from machine A to machine B

Yes, you can Destination local drive should be equal or larger than your original drive. You can resize partitions afterwards if you have to. if computer architecture in both machines is similar expect no or very few issues to troubleshoot. If newer Toshiba needs extra proprietary drivers, if you tr...

Re: Grub Windows UEFI entry

Hey, Tirofog and welcome to Mint forums
You don't need to mount any Windows partitions, edit fstab etc in order to add a Windows entry to grub menu.
In theory it should be as simple as executing sudo update-grub which invokes os-prober.

type: HDD rpm: 7200 Don't expect miracles with an old rotational disk. I consider your boot time below average, actually ~1m 15sec is good with that type of drive on modern Linux. Windows 7 and its contemporary Linux distros booted considerably faster cause they loaded a lot fewer libs and services...

Re: Removing old kernel headers?

Should be the other way round: linux-image-generic-hwe-22.04 and corresponding headers are not needed in Linux Mint because they are there in Ubuntu to always make you update to latest Ubuntu kernel series while Mint sticks with LTS (this has been announced to change with LM 22). But I have no idea ...
