Re: what is the chance that this computer has spying hardware in it?
I run an old Minis Forum mini with linux (Still on Mint) for my access to the not so smart TV. It does what I want it to do. I have since moved my main PC and My server to mxlinix. I went this route since mx flagship is XFCE and that is what I like. No middleman buntu.

Re: We Don't Want You to Fix It
In my experience, with the simple electrical coffee grinders that I use, it's always the power cord that breaks internally. After the inevitable fixing, this is how mine looks now: https://i.postimg.cc/kB9Mpw2b/IMG-20221228-113050.jpg Bottom Line is does it work...Yes it does so mission accomplishe...

Re: We Don't Want You to Fix It
The expense of new tools is not the point. Standard slotted, cross point, or Allen screws perform the same function yet have screwdrivers that are universally available. The special tools that are required for non standard screws are an excuse by manufacturers, under the guise of protecting the use...

Hay rides having a good time. But I suppose it would be considered Child abuse now not having them buckled down and not secure. Some people would report you for it also. It was the good old days though and people actually had fun. Thank you for the fond memories.

Re: "In the old days we...."
I really remember listening to AFN (Armed Forces Network) in Japan in the 1970's with Wolfman Jack, Charlie Tuna, etc. I also with great nostalgia remember AFN playing "Christmas in the Paddies" around Christmas. I found it, and it brought tears to my eyes. Here it is: https://www.youtube...

You sit and talk with your compatriots and wonder "where did all the fun go?" It just seems like back in the day you could have fun, and things were so much simpler. They were much simpler back then, you didn't have to worry about most anything. There wasn't a lot of the "I can't say...

Re: Poll: which non-mint linux distro would you recommend to people switching from windows 8.1 to linux?
Why would someone go to a distro and ask if someone would recommend another distro? Mint has served me well and I just don't understand why. I realize it wasn't the question but WHY?

Everything that works hurts, and what doesn't hurt doesn't work. You feel like the morning after, and you haven't been anywhere. Your little black book only contains names ending in M.D. Your children are beginning to look middle-aged. Your mind makes contracts your body can't keep. You look forward...

Confusers have gotten to the point that you can spend thousands on one, top of the line bazillion core super computers water cooled with a 100 million gig a ram on a video card that will record and play back a lightning strike on 15 monitors at the same time while playing the newest games all at onc...

Re: Timeshift

I have been spending a lot of time drawing on my CAD. That has now come to a halt. I've still got 19.3 loaded on my laptop. I'm not good at solving the little issues that crop up when updating. I can muddle through my mint 19.3 Do you reccomend updating to 20.3 or In the Business world a manager sa...

Re: Which Mint version did you start with?
I played around with Fedora in the early days but never could see any use for it. I checked back from time to time and I never could see someone using it. When my Brothers Windows 7 crashed after an update and I couldn't fix it he refused to buy an OS. I convinced him to try Linux. It was Mint 18 Ci...

I believe I posted earlier in this but since Beta I have had no problems. Works fine last long time (until the next upgrade). Hardware reference if needed. I throttled it down in bios, runs cooler. Re: Chat about cheese
Can't stand sweet or sour food. Cheese is great, I like Blue cheese and Sharp cheddar. Sweet and Sour is a staple of Americanized Chinese food. When I was in Hong Kong or was it Singapore as a kid I ordered a plate of food, I didn't understand the menu and was to embarrassed to admit it so I pointe...
