Re: Changing log-in passwords

Could someone tell me how to do that then? Or should I look elsewhere?

Re: Changing log-in passwords

Thanks for the advice. I ended up installing Linux Mint 19 the other day, so the passwords have been changed, but I still don't know how to change them without reinstalling the OS... I encrypted the OS but no the home folder. So can anyone give me a run down on how to change the disk encryption pass...

Re: Can't copy backup file (.tar folder) to USB or external HDD

The .tar file is 6.2 gig, the USB is 64 gig with 57 gig of free space. The USB is FAT32 - so that's my problem. How do i format the USB to be exFAT? Using Linux Mint 19's built in USB formatter only gives me the options of FAT32, NTFS, and EXT4. I need something that is compatible with both windows ...

Can't copy backup file (.tar folder) to USB or external HDD

I've done a fresh install of Linux Mint 19, and made a back up using the built in backup tool. Then I tried to make a copy of the backup file (a .tar folder) to my USB for safe keepings. It failed to copy. When I clicked on "show more details" in the error message, it said "Error splicing file: File...

Re: Changing log-in passwords

That sounds like you have installed with 'Encrypt my home folder' on top of 'Encrypt my OS'. Does the first password prompt you with a message like 'Please unlock sda5_crypt'? Yes, that is what I get before I can put in my username/password. Is it less than desirable to have encrypted my home folde...

Changing log-in passwords

When I installed Linux Mint 18.3, I chose to encrypt the home folder. This means that I need to put in my 'home folder decrypt' password, then I have to put in my 'normal' password and username before I can start using my machine. I have no idea what the proper names of these two passwords are - sor...

Ipod not charging?

Is there a way to get apple devices (such as ipods) to charge in linux mint 18.3 cinnamon? I know there used to be a program called ipad charge that allowed you to charge apple devices on linux, but that was back in 2014 and I don't think its supported any more.

Unable to launch cinnamon-session-cinnamon error

When I booted up my linux machine this morning, I got the following message: unable to launch "cinnamon-session-cinnamon" X session "cinnamon-session-cinnamon" not found; falling back to default session. I was then taken to a black page with nothing but an arrow cursor and the ability to launch the ...

Re: Updating BIOS in Linux only environemnt

@ajgringo619: You're right. Seems so obvious now that someone else has pointed it out.

@Arch_Enemy: Will do!

@everyone else: I will look into Hiren’s Boot CD is I am unable to update the BIOS any other way.

Thanks all!

Re: Logictech Z313 speakers popping/crackling when not playing audio

Found the cause of my speaker issues - it was pulseaudio. After uninstalling pulseaudio they work fine.

Updating BIOS in Linux only environment

Is it necessary to update BIOS when using Linux? And how do you go about doing this in a linux only environment? I really hope this is something I can do without too much trouble, as I've learned that my linux machine has two revisions of stability and freezing firmware updates. https://global-downl...

Re: Is encrypting the home folder enough?

Looks like I would need considerably more IT know-how than I actually have. That said, there are things I can do, and that's better than nothing.

What is the easiest way to do full disk encryption with Linux Mint? Is that something you have to do when you install it, or can you do it at any point?

Re: [SOLVED] Logictech Z313 speakers popping/crackling when not playing audio

I stand corrected - it only took care of the constant humming... after a few moments of not playing any audios there is a loud pop and it starts making static noises... :? For the moment I can just keep the speakers turned off except when in use, but this is annoying! I want them to work perfectly d...

Re: Logictech Z313 speakers popping/crackling when not playing audio

Found a solution to my problem! In a terminal: sudo nano -w /etc/pulse/default.pa Look for this line: load-module module-udev-detect Add tsched=0 to the end of the line, like this: load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0 ctrl-o, enter to save, then ctrl-x to exit. Reboot. Give that a try. If it does...

[SOLVED] Logictech Z313 speakers popping/crackling when not playing audio

I got a new pair of Logictech Z313 speakers to replace my old ones, but I have run into a slight problem. When the speakers are turned on they start popping and cracking after a few moments, but when I start playing audio files or videos the issue stops. As long as I play something, they work fine. ...

Re: Is encrypting the home folder enough?

I am concerned with local access (unauthorized access by house mates, burglars, etc) for the most part, but remote access is something I also want to harden myself against. If for no other reason than to annoy anyone trying to hack me. 8) This computer stays at home, but I can't rule out wanting to ...
