Re: Wifi not showing up in settings

It's in the router that the SSID of a network can be hidden. Or made visible again. Some people think that a hidden SSID is more secure, but that's a mistake. It's even *less* secure than a visible SSID: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/securitywireless#TOC-Myth-1:-not-broadcastin...

Re: Wifi not showing up in settings

It seems that JeremyB had the right hunch.... Try this: rfkill unblock all Well, at first I thought I had no success. I typed the code and rebooted but it didn't show up. Then I went into "connect to hidden networks" and it did connect this time. (Previously I had tried this and it didn't...

Re: Wifi not showing up in settings

You might try the rtlwifi_new driver package from lwfinger, like this: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/reserve-7#TOC-The-rtlwifi_new-driver-from-lwfinger (item 8, right column) Ok, I did try this one Pjotr, but it did not seem to help. I'm including screenshots of how my Network ...

Code: Select all

rfkill list all
please post the output

This is what I got with the command:

$ rfkill list all

Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Of course, I have no idea what it means.

Re: Wifi not showing up in settings

After scouring around the forum I have seen this code and decided to run it in case it would help give context to my situation: sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py And to clarify: I cannot see the wireless in Network Settings (except when clicking the button 'Known Networks'. There's no sta...

Using Mint 17.2 I am connected via Ethernet to the Internet, and I am connected somehow to wireless on my laptop but when I open the Network settings -- there is nothing in the box under Wifi. If I click the button that says "Known networks" I can see the wireless network, but I can't get ...

Re: Update Error on Rebecca

Thank you so much, Karl, for your response. I went to the link you suggested and from there elsewhere, and I got rid of the bad sig error. However, the hash- sum mismatch error remains: W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/rebecca/import/binary-amd64/Packages Hash Sum mismatch E: S...

Re: MintInstall keeps asking for password

I feel frustrated by this feature, too. I've used Mint since the early days and it seems that one didn't always have to continually authenticate (but maybe I'm not remembering correctly since I've used Min alongside other distros). Now I'm using 12/Lisa and I wish there was more of a grace period be...

I have no effects turned on.... Actually, Mint wouldn't even let me enable any effects  It says "Desktop effects could not be enabled" whenever I try to enamble either Normal, Extra or Custom effects :? However I think I managed to get rid of this ghost-like-things after disabling ...

Re: Strange Ghost-like-something stays on screen...

I'm having this very problem, too using Julia :?: . I've never had it with any other Mint version. But this is happening everyday and the images stay stuck on the screen until I reboot. I would really appreciate knowing how to solve it. It's quite distracting.

Enter Password for Default Keyring to Unlock (SOLVED)

Thanks, fredbird67

So, according to richy-rich's statement, then, and what you're saying, I would uncheck everything except the medibuntu repo?
