Re: Conditional Background

Greetings! I am not sure what you're after, but if you are trying to pull random background images off the web, take a look at the "variety" background changer, written by Peter Levy; why re-invent the wheel? At a minimum, "variety" provides a good examle of how its done. I've used "variety" for sev...

Re: Does anyone here know how to change the task bar to be like a Mac?/

I have looked around and still can't do it. I have the latest version. If you could explain it as simply as possible it would be appreciated Greetings! Rest assured, you're not alone in your quest for a mac-lookalike setup. Here's a write-up of what someone else has come up with, @ https://www.dedo...

Re: Start menu (whisker) "Super up" as shortcut?

Greetings, and Happy Holidays for you! This shortcut-behavior is a (possibly ancient) "feature" of xfce. See bugreport @ https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7845 and a quick-fix workaround using the "xcape" utility @ https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=49054#p49054 My own workaround: i've...

Yes, i read so myself; but the OP's "... go back to" suggests otherwise, thus my question (trying to establish a baseline).

Re: Sadly I'm not having fun with my Linuxmint 19 Xfce

I have one in a desktop computer and one in a laptop computer. Both experience the same problems. I think I'll go back to cinnamon. Thank you. Greetings! What do you mean exactly by "... go back to cinnamon"? What edition/version of Linux Mint did you install at the very beginning: cinnamon, xfce, ...

Re: Mint 19 - xdotool

mint4all - xdotool keydown <key> and xdotool key <key> and xdotool keyup <key> are valid syntax with slightly different effects. Have a closer look at man xdotool. key Down emulates pressing and releasing the Down arrow key. squalo - your original constructions fails on Mint Cinnamon 19 as-well wit...

Thanks. This works for me now on Mint19Mate , activating first the window. But my old script had worked also all the time on 16.04 Ubuntu-Mate. So somehow it must (have been) worked sending keystrokes to other windows. Greetings! I am using xdotool for a special project (display/hiding of a tablet-...

Greetings! Actually, rearranging Thunar's columns is quite easy to do: {open} Thunar > View {menu} > Configure Columns {option} > tweak column sequence ... Fyi, here's a screenshot: https://image.ibb.co/ed2Va0/Thunar-Columns.png Of course, it helps to switch Thunat's view to the tabular format (pres...

Re: I lose display settings!

@ pstrbrc... I've checked out your proposed xml-tweak @ https://codebeautify.org/xmlviewer# ... It looks like you have an extra </property> statement at the bottom, and the "Notify" key has no such </property> statement (may not be needed as it is at the end of your xml file). Anyhow, even though x...

Re: I lose display settings!

Greetings! My everyday desktop, a 10yo Dell Precision, was fresh built to LM18.0-xfce, then successively updated from .1 to .2 and is now at 18.3 ... I do not observe this problem on this nor on another 4 systems (@ 18.3), nor on a 12yo Toshiba laptop running LM19.0-xfce. None of the systems have th...

Re: Launch Panel won;t dock to bottom of screen

Greetings! According to the manufacturer, your laptop's native display resolution is 1080x600 pixels. However, your system's info shows a resolution of 1024x576 pixels -- 24 vertical pixels short of the 600 pixels the GPU allows for. Sooo, somehow, Xfce's bottom panel (aka Task Bar) appears to be "l...

Thanks for the info. I can't provide the output because the laptop is in use in our barn right now. It doesn't have email either since we use it strictly for media purposes and a little browsing. The laptop is indeed old, an older Asus G2S Gaming Laptop. It has Nvidea graphics, but I'm using the de...

Re: Panel Preferences

Greetings!

Before suggesting a workaround, what appearance-"theme" are you using? There are 2 settings to check: Menu > Settings > Appearance > "Style" tab; and Menu > Settings > Window Manager > "Style" tab. Thanks for checking.

Hmm. Interesting. I still had occasional issues with the new mouse. I switched the usb hub I had the mouse connected to, and so far so good. Re: Getting rid of overlay scrollbars

Glad to see it working for you :D ... My humble answer to your 3 scenarios: it all has to do with a particular switch-setting's "scope" -- simply speaking, who "sets" the variable, and who "sees" it. If we exclude hacks & exploits for a moment, a "parent" process sets it, and a "child" process sees,...
