Re: .dd file how to view

Greetings! Looking into this a bit more i came across the "unarchiver" tool discussed @ https://fileinfo.com/extension/dd ... A search for a linux equivalent turned up a command-line version, discussed @ http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/unarchiver-finally-free-software-tool.html ) that might just do t...

Re: [SOLVED] Update to Linux Mint 19 XFCE - small issues

All this stuff is in the package called xfce4-goodies Greetings! Fwiw, I pointed out in my blog post re. LM19-XFCE-beta that this package should be installed by default. Considering that Mint's Cinn* & Mate editions are packaged with ALL their goodies (the most-common ones, anyway), why then releas...

Re: XCFE how do you set screen brightness? - solved

Greetings! I've come across a (possibly) generic solution to managing a laptop's screen brightness: the "xbrightness" utility discussed @ https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/356730/how-to-create-keyboard-shortcuts-for-screen-brightness-in-xubuntu-xfce-ubuntu ... So I checked my 12yo Toshiba lap...

Re: Pointer speed doesn't work after upgrade

Thanks! Afaict, you have 3 pointing devices listed, but that doesn't mean that all 3 are indeed physically connected to your system. If they are, I would see if removing the SONIX mouse & the gaming device/console makes a difference. Lastly, i'd attach the logitech mouse to a different usb port: i h...

Re: Pointer speed doesn't work after upgrade

I've done some testing with my 12yo Toshiba laptop, using a fresh install of lm19-xfce (32bit). I found that XFCE uses some basic, built-in defaults re. mouse settings (acccell & sensitivity). If any of that is changed by the user, XFCE saves those settings in a file @ /home/{user}/.config/xfce4/xfc...

Re: Pointer speed doesn't work after upgrade

Greetings! Your info indicates that you upgraded from LM18.4 to LM 19 ... Since there is no LM 18.4, i assume this was a typo, correct? Also, your earlier posts indicate that you were using LMDE (at least a while back); so my question to you is: did you re-build your system with Mint's XFCE edition ...

Re: Xfburn Not Installed By Default In Mint 19 (Tara)

I've noticed many of the newer laptops of today don't have optical drives. I've got 4 computers (2 desktop towers, 2 laptops) and the all of my computers have optical drives. Of course, my computers are older than most peoples. The oldest is a 2010 year model and the newest is a 2013 year model. I ...

Re: Hotkey to Close the Current Window

The more mainstream distros have just picked it up to make the transition from Windows easier. I'm not sure that's correct. It's been in UX design guidelines since the year dot. Consistency in UX is a golden rule. Probably a hen/egg problem, but I'm good with either, makes no difference at the end ...
