Re: Mint 19 slow boot : fstrim.service is long

Just to say I installed the SDD internally. Works like a charm now! It's a 120 gig drive, couldn't find any smaller... (cost of € 21) I freshly installed Mint 19.1 Xfce 64 bit version via a USB stick. To share the specs for the install, I chose a manual partitioning: On the SDD: - Swap (set twice my...

bulevardi, the boot time on my laptop went from 56 seconds after a fresh install of 19.1 on a HDD to 8 seconds after installing an SSD, a significant change.
Alright, then I know what to do next :)
Thanks!

Re: Mint 19 slow boot : fstrim.service is long

I have 2 pc's running Mint. On one of them I recently upgraded from 18 to 19 aswel and suffer from a slow boot too. Seems like a lot of people seem to have this issue when I read the threads here... Question 1: I'm wondering if a fresh install from the cd/usb would make it boot faster ? Question 2: ...

Re: Hello everyone

Haven't read any books about linux mint (yet)... as it works out of the box, and is quite userfriendly.
For just regular office work you can use LibreOffice, there are creative stuff like gimp, rawtherapee, inkscape,...

Don't know what you want to use your computer for ?

I'm a total n00b in this area... (be aware, you'll be reading a ridiculous post).... Hello all, My name is Dirk. I'm from Belgium. I'm not new on computers, nor on Mint (currently still on Rosa-XFCE). I used to work in a computershop in my younger days. In my older days I just fiddle about to get the most out of the hardware. And I know my ay around on DuckDuckGo etc  Chee...

Re: 13 Most Promising New Linux Distributions to Look Forward in 2019

Can someone please explain why Mint is a beginner's distro???. Because is works? Sorry, but this moniker really bugs me. There is absolutely nothing I can't do on Mint that's blocked because it's for "beginners". Of course because it works. You can still change a lot to the appearance, but at the e...

Ok,... no luck ... went to someone with a Windows pc to connect the Storio.
It's working now, SOLVED.

Weird that no techie found a solution to get it connected in Linux. It's recognized, the software works, only the connection isn't established. :(

fresh install vs upgrade

I'm wondering if the boot time different after you do - an upgrade from Mint 18.3 to 19 - a fresh install of 19 ? I suppose an upgrade is only possible in the same flavour ? Cinnamon 18.3 > Cinnamon 19... you cannot go from Cinnamon 18.3 to Xfce 19 by upgrade? You'll probably have to do a fresh inst...

Added all the drives in that configuration menu....

Guess I'll have to find someone with a Windows pc to install this Xplora Park... to get this new game installed on this toy-tablet.

Re: Vtech Storio

My best suggestion is to try running the Xplora Park under WINE (Windows Emulator). Well,I ran it again (via Wine), and it runs exactly the same as before. Xplora Park works fine. It just doesn't allow me to get access to my device. The device itself is connected. When connecting the Storio device ...

I just want to be able to play the keyboard with no need to record. What about using a DAW, and play your keyboard there (even without recording?). There's a few good DAW's with native linux support: Reaper (I'm currenlty using this): http://reaper.fm/download.php#linux_download (works with alsa di...

Re: (solved) MS Office - best way to run this windows suite in Linux Mint?

As somebody else has said, there is no "best" solution - but for anyone who *must* use MS Office (as opposed to just playing with it), I would advise avoiding Wine, Crossover and Playonlinux like the plague. Right here PlayOnLinux did the trick brilliantly for the time we needed it. I reïnstalled i...

What is so critical about running M$Orifice? Unless she is into programming it in VBA big time, there is not much difference. FWIW I have written thousands of lines of VBA code for Word, Excel and Access. So far I have yet to be convinced that Base is anywhere near that program. I'm about to delve ...
