Re: same home folder on a dual boot, good idea or not?

I reïnstalled grub, and then when rebooting he gave some other errors, with (initramfs) I found I needed to fschk /dev/sda2 to get it fixed. In YaST I could change the entry of the bootloader menu and now both OS's start fine. And in openSUSE I now have GNOME and KDE to choose from. The gnome is suc...

Re: same home folder on a dual boot, good idea or not?

Screenshot from 2019-08-18 15-09-48.jpg I now have installed the openSUSE distro, resized my partitions so I could have space for it... but now he automatically put the bootloader in that new made partition too... (sda3) (not what I wanted... ) and when he boots, I can only start openSUSE, and no o...

Re: same home folder on a dual boot, good idea or not?

My current data folder is stored here now: /home/username/ mydatafolder Under the /home/username folder are also all the config files, desktop/downloads/... folders. So I guess it's not a good idea to hold my mydatafolder under my username? I should put it under /mnt/ ? But than it's not anymore on ...

Re: same home folder on a dual boot, good idea or not?

Ok... because other people say it can get messy and not a good idea: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=180003 Hmm... I have an SSD (I guess 120gb) containing following partitions: - 1 GB boot ext4 - 16 GB swap (ram) - / (root) ext4 for the OS (currently only Mint) + an HDD (1 TB) for...

(solved) same home folder on a dual boot, good idea or not?

Hi all, I'm thinking about installing openSUSE as a dual boot on my machine, aside Mint. But I still doubt about sharing one same /home folder (which is currenlty on a separate HD) that could maybe cause problems with preferences and such installed in the /home folder? Or wouldn't this be a possible...

Re: Linux Mint logo suggestion

I avoid the logo by changing them to text.
e.g. "Menu", or *oink*, *burp* "GoGoGoooo" or something like that.

Re: Linux Mint logo suggestion

I personally never liked the Mint logo... to be honest (now don't feel personally attacked :p ) :( Although I like using the OS very very much !! From all linux distros, my favourite logo is the one of openSUSE. Maybe I should just install openSUSE as a dual boot on my machine, for the love of that ...

Re: "There was an error opening the audio hardware"

Reïnstalled Xfce from scratch. Pavucontrol as volume mixer. For some reason it is now directly working out of the box... The input/output fields of the ALSA settings were already filled in with Scarlett in Reaper. And no latency at all when recording. :o Don't know what went wrong in the fir...

Re: "There was an error opening the audio hardware"

Reïnstalled Cinnamon, this went quite quick, as my working files are on a separate disk. Opened Reaper, error message, went to Reaper Preference menu, ALSA input/output field was blank too, clicked on it, did nothing... but when fiddling in the blank field, I clicked on the dropdown arrow and the HW...

(solved) "There was an error opening the audio hardware"

I'm receiving an error message when opening Reaper DAW "There was an error opening the audio hardware" Until yesterday I worked with Linux Mint Cinnamon (18 ?) With a Focusrite Solo, Reaper worked directly out of the box. Since today, I switched to another OS (Linux Mint XFCE 19), and installed Reap...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd gen) reliability issues

I've got this same problem at the moment, but here this solution isn't working. Installed the Scarlett firmware updater via Wine... but still not working. "No Scarlett Found" popup like in that youtube video. In my DAW (reaper): no devices found. However, my volume control panel detects it and the s...

Re: Mint 19 slow boot : fstrim.service is long

Just to say I installed the SDD internally. Works like a charm now! It's a 120 gig drive, couldn't find any smaller... (cost of € 21) I freshly installed Mint 19.1 Xfce 64 bit version via a USB stick. To share the specs for the install, I chose a manual partitioning: On the SDD: - Swap (set twice my...

bulevardi, the boot time on my laptop went from 56 seconds after a fresh install of 19.1 on a HDD to 8 seconds after installing an SSD, a significant change.
Alright, then I know what to do next :)
Thanks!

Re: Mint 19 slow boot : fstrim.service is long

I have 2 pc's running Mint. On one of them I recently upgraded from 18 to 19 aswel and suffer from a slow boot too. Seems like a lot of people seem to have this issue when I read the threads here... Question 1: I'm wondering if a fresh install from the cd/usb would make it boot faster ? Question 2: ...

Re: Hello everyone

Haven't read any books about linux mint (yet)... as it works out of the box, and is quite userfriendly.
For just regular office work you can use LibreOffice, there are creative stuff like gimp, rawtherapee, inkscape,...

Don't know what you want to use your computer for ?

I'm a total n00b in this area... (be aware, you'll be reading a ridiculous post).... That guy is a well skilled IT dude working in security and claimed to know a lot about Linux too...

Hello all, My name is Dirk. I'm from Belgium. I'm not new on computers, nor on Mint (currently still on Rosa-XFCE). I used to work in a computershop in my younger days. In my older days I just fiddle about to get the most out of the hardware. And I know my ay around on DuckDuckGo etc  Chee...
