Re: APTIK, where to find it or a different app that does the same

All, Thank you to those who gave of their time and energy to reply to this topic/post. Sigh, I've procured Aptik*, and did an external back-up using Aptik. I'm more than a bit intimidated to do a fresh install of LM 21.1. I'm recalling just how time consuming it was to get the configuration the way ...

APTIK, where to find it or a different app that does the same

Re: using two drives, both encrypted.

djph,

Big sigh, I'm a big du**y, or something, from https://www.howtogeek.com/206454/how-to ... ing-aptik/
the command: sudo apt-get install aptik returns package not found. aptik isn't in the repository either.

Thanks yet again. E1-Beard-0

Re: using two drives, both encrypted.

djph,

Thank you once again for your reply, it induced me to "look around"
I found this topic that seems to address my goals, it also raised the issue of additional installed software, something I hadn't considered at all.

Thank you and respectfully yours, E1-Beard-0

Re: using two drives, both encrypted.

Thank you, djph. That's helpful, even though I don't know what some of those acronyms mean. A follow up question: I infer from your reply that it might be better to install both drives, deleting all content, That is; no partitions, and with only LM 21.1 as OS. Please comment as you have the time and...

(?solved?) using two drives, both encrypted.

Greetings All, I recently got a 1TB SSD and installed LM 21.1, this seems to work fine. I was running LM 20.1 on a 500GB SSD. Both drives are encrypted. I would like to be able to use both drives as one drive. That is; one login opens a virtual 1.5TB drive. There are topics that speak to this, but t...

Re: Difficulties with "Choose your calibre Library" in calibre (Solved)

All,

Thank you for your replies, apparently I didn't do enough research. I was rather surprised to read that installing calibre via Software Manager was not recommended.

I think I'll mark this solved, thanks to all.

Respectfully yours, E1-Beard-0

Difficulties with "Choose your calibre Library" in calibre (Solved)

Greetings all, I'm aware that LM forums may not be the best place for this inquiry. I have already put a very similar inquiry at Mobile read. Respectfully, I’m looking for an alternate point of view. I'm running Linux Mint 21.1, calibre being one of the e-book readers available via the Software Mana...

dpkg errors, how to make dpkg --get-slections . mylist.list to work

Greetings all, I've completed an install of LM 20.3. I wanted to do a full back-up, the following command was suggested. I ran that command and got the following error: dpkg --get-slections > mylist.list dpkg: error: unknown option --get-slections Type dpkg --help for help about installing and deins...

Re: Is there an alternative to the xfce terminal?

As a personal example: I've been a Plumber for many a year, when I talk to folks about their plumbing problems, I often find that I need to "tune down" my use of Plumber speak, folks just don't understand the lingo. Okay, so let's keep it to plumbing. You have a toolbox (the terminal, spe...

Re: Is there an alternative to the xfce terminal?

Thanks to all who have given of their time in regard to this thread. I'm going to close this thread as from my perspective the key issue, that is; ways to use the terminal that are more "word processor" like, has been answered. Thank you to all who have given of their time in this thread. ...

Re: Is there an alternative to the xfce terminal?

I issue some command, the result is an error message of some sort. Sometimes, when I try to edit that command, I'm not able to issue the edited command. Rather, the original command is executed with the same result. I have tried to put commands into LibreOffice Writer for editing, but more often th...

Re: Is there an alternative to the xfce terminal?

dijp, I did look into VIM and decided that I wasn't prepared to invest the time in getting proficient using VIM. I will remove VIM shortly. I'm still kinda lost where you though I was suggesting you use (much less install) vim though ... Granted, it's like all of 4 MiB installed; so it's not harmin...

Re: Is there an alternative to the xfce terminal?

djph and kevin987, Please pardon any confusion, it's an undoubted result of my convoluted writing style. As of Monday 28-Mar-2022. I have Gedit installed, I have used Gedit in the past. I will allow I don't recall anything about it now. Be that as it may, Gedit has the benefit of prior use. dijp, I ...

djph, Thank you for your reply. Sigh, sometimes I regret learning so very little about Linux. It's when I run into a message, where I don't understand the import of the message, that I seek assistance. Linux Mint is very stable and it's very rare where I need assistance. Greetings all,

Please pardon my previously erroneous assertion re; Vim. It seems I misspoke about having Vim installed. I went back and discovered Vim was not installed. I installed Vim from the LM respiratory.

djph, Methodologies, yes bad word choice. What I had in mind the ability to move the cursor around from place to place.
