Re: Indexed HDD Full_Add New HDD

Thanks. I use alphabetical indexing in LibreCalc and it is very simple. I am just an amateur but I have amassed a lot of material, some of it scanned from slides and prints. https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Creating_Alphabetical_Indexes The problem is not the indexing per se. It is the linking to...

Indexed HDD Full_Add New HDD

I have 2.4 TB used space on a 3 TB drive. Running 18.4 Mate. The material consists of familly videos, photos and some downloaded films. The family photos are index listed using LibreCalc. I wish to retain all this material. Is it possible to add another 3TB HDD and have LibreCalc update the index ac...

Re: Security Updates Not Installing

How strange!

All of a sudden without me doing anything, and whilst I was working on something else, the upgrade completed itself.

I'd be grateful for advice.

AssetUPnP

Asset is a DLNA compatible audio server designed for high quality reproduction through in my case a Linn Majik DSM. I have used Asset in Windows but now want to try it in Linux Mint - I am trying very hard to abandon Windows completely. AssetUPnP is available for Debian. I cannot find it using Softw...

Run editor with sudo command like sido editor. Password is your user password.

Hmm...

I used Kate to write this:

Code: Select all

<?php
phpinfo();
?>
When I tried to save this as an .html file in var/www/html I don't have write access.

Should I be using a different editor?

Re: Installing PHP

Thanks. I think php7.0 is installed now.

How to check, please. All of the many test methods listed in the Community Tutorial produced errors. Seems that tutorial is badly out of date.

Installing PHP

I am setting up to be able to open .php files in a browser. I am using the Mint community tutorial on this. I run 18.3 up to date. Apache2 install was fine. When I tried to install PHP I got this: pestilany@Hansel ~ $ sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5 Reading package lists... Done Buildi...

Re: Monthly News – March 2019

Oh, come on guys! Look at the forest, not the trees! That Linux Mint and other distros exist at all is amazing. Most users take Mint for granted. Of course they do! It is a mark of success, just like when we crank the starter motor we take it for granted the car will start. Opinions on what is good ...

Re: Copy 18.3 data files to 19.1

Mint 19.1 is on sdd3. On the left is a list of disk drives. From 19.1 I can access the disk drive containing 18.3 and open the folders. However, it will be a laborious process copying many GBs of data manually from 18.3 to 19.1. Perhaps I should uninstall this version of 19.1 and use the published m...

Re: Copy 18.3 data files to 19.1

Thanks. To be clear, I am running a quadruple boot system with 18.3 as default. Originally it was triple boot but I had to install 19.1 to solve a problem - this was already dealt with on these boards. The other boots are Windows 10 and Kubuntu. I could not find a folder (?) on any disk called 'Plac...

Copy 18.3 data files to 19.1 [Solved]

I have ended up for all sorts of reasons with both 18.3 and 19.1 versions of Mate. How best to copy data files (.mp4; .flac, .png etc) from the 18.3 version to the 19.1? I am not very Linux literate - I can use the terminal if not too complicated - in other words, when I use the terminal I like to u...

Re: Triple boot system will not boot [SOLVED]

One memory stick had millions of errors.

I sent the pair (16 months old) back to Overclockers UK and in four days I had a replacement matched pair from Corsair, no quibbles.

Thanks for help sorting this out.

Re: Triple boot system will not boot

Memtest showed millions of errors on one stick of Corsair DDR4 RAM. The other stick showed no errors in 7 hours.
The faulty stick is16 months old so should still be in warranty.

I will test the 'bad' stick in the other socket in case there is a mobo problem but it seems unlikely.

Re: Triple boot system will not boot

Sorry for not replying sooner, Pierre, but I have been backing up all week. I didn't dare re-boot the PC until this was complete. I am currently running Memtest86 5.01 which was an option on the Grub menu. Although I thought I had installed 19.1 from the live environment, that version isn't in the G...
