Re: Login Password Twice

Hopefully others will continue with suggestions on the system/software side, but just a thought in the meantime - any chance you've got a dodgy character on the keyboard. There's an online tester here if you think it's worth a shot: https://www.keyboardtester.com/tester.html Thanks. That's a neat l...

Perhaps your hard drive is full:

No, it's not full. Hundreds of gigs remaining.

Thanks, anyways.

Login Password Twice

All of a sudden, I have to enter my login password twice or three times. The first time, there's a comment 'checking', before the box is cleared. It's a small thing but a bit irritating and worrying in case it gets worse! It could end up with Mint either not accept my password at all, or require it ...

Re: Grub Menu and Partitions

Thanks. I got sorted. I booted in from Mint and noted the Ubuntu partition from the grub menu there.

A bit of a roundabout way of finding out but it worked.

Grub Menu and Partitions

I run a triple boot PC.

The grub menu tells me which partition each Linux distro is installed on, except for the default one (Ulyana) at the top.

Is there a reason for not showing the partition on which Ulyana is installed in the grub menu? I know I should know, but I forget sometimes.

Thanks!

Many thanks. pavucontrol installed.

Hopefully it will not reset after reboot. That Archlinux stuff does my old head in.

Sound problem with YouTube

I run Ulyana 20 all updated. I run two speakers off the built in sound. I can test these and they work fine. When I run YouTube, the output seems to switch to HDMI so that the sound comes from the monitor speakers, not my table top ones. The sound from the monitor is greatly inferior to the sound fr...

Transfer Bookmarks [Solved]

I just did a clean install of Ulyana on a new HDD. I was running 18.3 and I still have the 18.3 partition.

How can I transfer the FF bookmarks from 18.3 to 20.0?

Thanks,

Re: Dual Boot Installation Problem

The BIOS mode is UEFI. So run gparted and delete your existing ext4 partitions and create an EFI partition - size 500MB, format fat32, flags esp & boot. And re-install mint using the 'install alongide' option. If you want a custom partition setup, e.g. a separate / and /home partitions, create ...

How the sda3 became ext4 from vfat?
or
How the sda3 became efi partition?
I do not know the answer to these questions. I don't know about vfat - it's a new one on me.

I set the partitions to ext4 but when I added a mount / the sda3 partition became efi, or that is what I think happened.

Re: Dual Boot Installation Problem

Thanks, antikythera, but no go.

I don't know what the problem is. I've tried my best to follow instructions.

My plan now is to repartition and install Ubuntu. If all goes well with that (who knows if it will?) then I will install Mint Ulyana on a separate partition.

Thanks. But setting mount to /sda4 made no difference. Still the same message, no root defined.

The MS boot is on /sda1.

Dual Boot Installation Problem [SOLVED]

This is a clean install. I've installed umpteen distros but am struggling with this. As usual, I have probably missed something obvious. Windows Home is installed on its own partition created using W10 disk management. This boots and runs normally. Using a live environment USB to create additional p...

Clean install version 20.0 [SOLVED]

I run 18.3 in a triple boot with W10. All the OS are on the same HDD in different partitions. It is not ideal, I know, but it is the way my system usage evolved. And it works perfectly. But, the disk is short on space. Moreover, I wish to upgrade to Ulyana. I plan a clean install of W10 first on a 6...
