Many thanks.
I'll ignore it in the meantime. Hopefully, it will be fixed in an update.

Re: Mate Panel Missing 20.3 and Vanessa
Thanks. That was my thinking also but no matter what screen res I used, the panel did not appear. The nvidia 535 recommended graphics driver was the culprit. I had updated to this in 20.3. Bad mistake. https://web.tresorit.com/l/oE5hF#pytPInHXPEroh2PgflSLSQ The setting was carried over into the new ...

Mate Panel Missing 20.3 and Vanessa [SOLVED]
For some reason, maybe after an update, the panel disappeared in Una. I tried mate-panel --reset and gsettings reset-recursively org.mate.panel without success. The right click context menus disappeared also. ALT-F2 got me into Run Application and I can access Terminal from there and from CTRL-ALT-...

Re: GUI method to change ownership of a drive after formatting with GParted
Well, that's odd. How did you wind up with all your folders, etc. being owned by root? I copied the entire contents of a NAS (around 6 TB) to an external HDD (16TB). I used the Synology USB copy utility. Everything has copied beautifully except everything is locked! If I had hair I'd tear it out......

Re: Copy Files from NAS to External HDD
Also, keep in mind that even drives in a NAS can irrecoverably loose data with no warning whatsoever so it's important that you backup the data on a NAS, especially if the NAS is powered on and connected to the computer at all times. This is exactly why I was backing up the NAS - on a large externa...

Re: Copy Files from NAS to External HDD
I assume you have plugged the drive back into a usb port on your mint PC? sudo chown -R $USER: "/media/howard/Carmina Y" Will change ownership back to you on your mint PC, note that in mint the first user has an id=1000, on the synology the first user is id=1026. Thanks! All unlocked. :D ...

Re: GUI method to change ownership of a drive after formatting with GParted
Sorry, Jeannie, but this solution did not work for me. My folder, subfolders and files are all locked. They are owned by sudo. The HDD is formatted, ext4. Using caja, I do not get the option to 'Open as Root' when I right-click on a blank space. Same with dolphin. If I go straight to Permissions, th...

Re: Copy Files from NAS to External HDD
Plug the drive into one of the usb ports on the Synology and use Synology's usb copy utility. Sounds like you have a single drive NAS so when you have swapped out the old drive use it in a usb enclosure for backing up the NAS. Can't think of a reason why a 12TB drive would not work. This I have don...

Re: Copy Files from NAS to External HDD
Thanks to both for your very helpful replies. Sorry for causing confusion. The plan is to copy the data from the 8TB drive on the NAS, to a new 12TB disk in an external drive. I have USB3 ports on the NAS so I will use the Synology copy utility for starters. Having done that, the plan is to replace ...

Copy Files from NAS to External HDD
I run Mint 20.3 Mate. My Synology NAS (single drive, no empty slots) has reached 85% capacity (8TB drive). I would like to back up these data before replacing the NAS disk with a larger one. I plan to use a new 12TB drive in an external enclosure for this purpose. I would like to know how to do this...

Copy Folders without Content
Running 20.3 Una Mate. I have book authors listed alphabetically by folder name on a HDD. Each folder has sub-folders containing files - book titles, articles etc. The disk is nearing full capacity. I wish to create a second disk with the same folder structure but without sub-folders containing cont...

Re: [ SOLVED ] Firefox says “Your browser is being managed by your organization”
Thanks for your interest. I understand the situation a little better. I never used the Mint version of Firefox and never saw this message about my browser being managed by your organisation until a few days ago. For many years Firefox advised me that an update was available and advised installation ...

It is still here And it will be there even in several years. Obviously you did not read before writing. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=368957 As a matter of fact I did. It was a long thread and for me it cast more cloud than light. As for it being there in several years, I ha...

Re: [SOLVED] no access to the internet after using protonvpn
Thank you backflip 85, this fixed the bug for me.
Clearly, Proton has some work to do for Linux users if it wants its VPN to be anything other than a source of intense annoyance and irritation.

Re: blueman-applet glitch when connected to bluetooth devices
Similar problem with Linux 21 Vanessa Mate. Installed today.
Updated everything but no sign of Blueman or BlueZ. There is a Bluetooth app but it cannot link with my Bluetooth mouse.
I hadn't a problem in Uma. Now I've gotta hunt out a mouse with a tail. :shock
