Mint 18.2 idle suspend freeze, [SOLVED by upgrading]

The Mint 18.2 (Cinnamon) idle-suspend freeze I reported earlier is fixed in 18.3. Now on idle-suspend both the display and the computer itself enter suspend mode. A brief push of the computer power button brings everything back to life normally. Many thanks to whomever fixed this issue.

18.2 System Freezes [WORKAROUND]

Reposting here hoping for greater visibility than buried deeply in the "Newbie" section--besides I'm not a newbie. Since 18.2 freezes for me on every idle-suspend, without exception, I changed the Preferences/Power Management/Suspend when inactive to Never . There is now what I might call a "soft id...

Re: 18.2 System freezes

That this problem has been allowed to remain unresolved (despite being reported in Mint forums) for the 8 months since 18.2 was released is incomprehensible--and together with there being little evidence of the will or capability of self-styled guru responders to effectively address the bug--is con...

Re: 18.2 System freezes

@ jw jensen, ....... ... . Your 2011 computer is likely not very compatible with LM 18.2's kernel 4.13. Have you tried running kernel 4.4 LTS on LM 18.2.? This is the same reason, most Win XP-era(= 2001) computers with Intel Pentium 4 processors cannot run Win 8.x and Win 10. Eg ... https://www.the...

Re: libqtwebkit-dev_2.3.2_0ubuntu11 missing from repository

Please take steps to put the QtWebKit-dev package back in the Mint/Ubuntu repository, and ensure that QtWebKit is supported by Mint as long as Qt4 is distributed by Mint. I would like to migrate to Qt5 at my own pace and for my own reasons. Um ... No one in this forum can make that happen. The peop...

Re: 18.2 System freezes

Thanks for the info. I'll bear it in mind. However at the moment I'm skeptical. Please note: the freeze occurs consistently during idle-suspend (and occasionally at other times). Other 18.x users have reported this issue. When I first tried 18.2 a few months ago, continuing from idle-suspend effecte...

Re: 18.2 System freezes

Tried inxi -Fxz I got a lot of system configuration information That was probably the point. BTW I suspect Cinnamon. Will try LMDE That doesn't follow. It's not a matter of using Cinnamon or LMDE, as LMDE comes in a Cinnamon version too. First you choose Ubuntu-based or directly Debian based...

Re: 18.2 System freezes

I think you meant inxi -Fxz -c 0 BTW I suspect Cinnamon. I meant exactly what I wrote. Cheers. "Exactly what you wrote" when directed to a file for pasting into the reply resulted in many illegible special characters due to color in the command output. I simply added an option to suppress the color...

Re: libqtwebkit-dev_2.3.2_0ubuntu11 missing from repository

I understand that Debian is trying to phase out QtWebKit, and is doing so by (first) making the development files unavailable. The author of the DebianWiki on this subject, states that developers should migrate to Qt5 to continue using QtWebKit. There is a note on the Ubuntu web site stating that s...

Re: A forum section for OS issues is needed

None of these problems occur on 17.1. For you . On your particular hardware combination. Look, I'm not going to help you troubleshoot your problem in a thread with this idiotic title. Consider posting a new, ordinary thread, asking for help with your particular problem. A further thought: 17.1 work...

Re: A forum section for OS issues is needed

Help or don't help. I have already reported this problem under "Other" as 18.2 system freeze. This is not "my" problem. Others have reported freezes during idle-suspend for 18.x releases. Pay attention before you dismiss my suggestion as "idiotic".

Re: A forum section for OS issues is needed

You do not need to quote and reply with the same message numerous times. I would bet the problems are caused by the graphics and that it an issue that Mint did not cause, likely either Nvidia support or something with the Ubuntu kernel Somebody needs to explain why 17.1 works just fine. Every time ...

Re: A forum section for OS issues is needed

Mint has become so unstable that a separate forum section for various Mint issues is needed, rather than using the "Other" section. Utter and complete nonsense. Mint is perfectly stable; it's as reliable as a truck's diesel engine. On all of my machines, and on all of the machines that I'm sysadmin...

18.2 System freezes

Have ASUS Sabertooth FX 990 MB, 8 core AMD CPU, 16 Gb RAM. Running Mint 18.2. System freezes with mouse pointer movement but no response to click. Happens during normal operation and during suspend due to idle. I have experienced this and other instability since 18.2 was released a couple of months ...
