Re: Searching for an advanced firewall

clamav detected 88 infected files. ClamAV is unreliable when it comes to detecting Linux infections. To my knowledge Linux doesn't have a reliable way of determining which programs are connecting to which IP. If your computer is powering off instantly, it sounds like you're having power or heating ...

Re: Searching for an advanced firewall

Now I had 0Byte available on the hard disk. I had 78GB free. I would suggest that is the root of your issue - no free disk space then it is difficult for your computer to do anything. As to what caused your space to disappear is, of course, the crux of the matter. It could well be what you suspect,...

I'm not a computer expert, but I'm not convinced you got malware. Maybe your computer is dying?

Re: Searching for an advanced firewall

Update: I revived this thread because my computer behaved strangely late in the evening of May 12th. 23pm. So two hours later I revived this thread. Today I found out that my Linux computer has become infected. I will think about whether to install linux on it again, as I obviously need to have cont...

Re: Searching for an advanced firewall

What are you even talking about? Your demands are very basic and the default, pre-installed ufw does all of that (well, I don't know about MAC filtering because nobody in their right mind configures firewall rules based on MAC addresses which can get changed without any effort, the option is right ...

Re: Searching for an advanced firewall

Hi Marie...i admit that i have not read all other entries to such an old posting here in this thread...all i will say is that the GUFW software firewall is more than adequate...especially if you are using a "hardware" firewall that is built into a "router" that you are already using either as part ...

Check out the links below. Perhaps there's something there that will fit your needs. (But I'm with most here, Gufw is more than enough.) https://www.tecmint.com/open-source-security-firewalls-for-linux-systems/ https://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/02/top-5-best-linux-firewalls/ https://www.techlila.co...

Re: Searching for an advanced firewall

Hi all :D I wonder if there is any advanced firewalls to Linux? On my wish list of what i want it to do (besides the obvious a firewall does) is following. 1. A simple real time overview of which programs/files are connected, preferably with the target's IP address and mac address. A bonus if the a...

Re: [almost SOLVED] ALL Add ons suddenly stopped working in Firefox 66.0.3

I found this fix on github for older FF versions. I don't know if anyone posted this in here https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/60916#issuecomment-489793388 I quote the post to which the link refers to:: Just wanted to throw this fix out there since I am on an older version of Firefox 56.0.2 wh...

Re: [SOLVED TEMPORARILY] ALL Add ons suddenly stopped working in Firefox 66.3

Hi, folks. A lot of people told a lot of things on the expired certificate, on the problem which it causes (most Firefox add-ons and themes disabled since May 4th, 2019) and on possible temporary workarounds. The officially recommended temporary workaround which will re-enable the disabled Firefox ...

Re: No Password Needed Nor Wanted

No you can't because you need my Password...you can't even boot to my Desktop with out my Password that's Security...some...

Re: No Password Needed Nor Wanted

Interesting My biggest weakness is that i can't Linux at the same level as i know windows to block OS-holes........ yet. No, it does not require a virus and it does not require root privileges to start with. Acquiring root privileges on your computer may be the goal. But it would be the last step in...

Some people just don't understand what security is... http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/confused/confused0024.gif and that's the difference between Windoze and Linux but as always if you don't like it...go back to Windoze. http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0203.gif if you know how to b...

Marie, apparently you don't agree with the first of your own signature lines.
Of course I do
But it is just as easy to use a keylogger to capture the password as creating a virus that can click OK on a screen

Re: No Password Needed Nor Wanted

why isn't that sensible? wouldn't the security still be intact that way or what? only that it doesn't require a password, but an active action to approve the activity. Imagine that someone manages to gain partial control of your computer... either physically or through the internet. Shall we say, t...

Re: No Password Needed Nor Wanted

a small question. Instead of having to enter a password, it is possible to do as in windows where you either click OK or cancel to verify elevated privileges? In the end, everything is possible in Linux. But that doesn't mean it's always sensible to do so. Don't mess with fundamental security in Li...
