Re: Gaming and SSD use

I'm still new to Linux but i see from your dump that you have separate drives for your two OS. What I did to help is have grub on my mint SSD and that's what I boot to. Windows 10 on separate SSD is listed in grub when I need to boot windows. But this allows me to keep everything separate. Linux doe...

Re: Restoring Grub Menu

I was told not long ago that I should use grub customizer because of how it works in a way that it makes it tough to fix if you make a mistake.
Editing the file is actually easier in the long run and easily fixed if you make a goof..

Re: Timeshift and the Settings

Ok so what I do now is if I'm going to drop old snapshots I delete them first then create my newest one. Not sure if I need to. Worried if I create one then delete older ones, that stuff will be missing since when I made the new one it was there then not there after when I deleted

Amd a10-5800k+ HD7570 1gb ddr5 rig drivers?

Hello, The title pretty much says it all but are there any special drivers I need to run the graphics on this rig? I'm running 19.3 with 16 GB ddr3 1866 in it. Also running separate SSD with win 10 that allows dual graphics between APU and discreet card. My driver manager is empty so I only have wha...

Re: Kernel confusion 19.3 - Kernel 5. vs 4.15 [Solved]

So I have a thinkpad t420 running i3 2520m and a desktop running an a10 5800k dual graphics. When I updated both to 19.3, they installed 5.0 kernal but but because it's old tech so I rolled both back to 4.15. haven't had any issues. Is there any reason that systems as old as these I should run 5.x.x...

Re: Just updated to 19.3 Tricia. Update manager pushed kernel 5.0

Yes I'm now running 5.0.0.37 And both systems are a bit old. And system is a6-5400k from 2012 and t420 laptop with i5 2520m but both seem to be working. When I list kernels in update manager there's no way I saw to switch so if I have issues and need to go back to 4.15 I'll look up how to switch ker...

Just updated to 19.3 Tricia. Update manager pushed kernel 5.0

It was in the update manager. However after installing it, I noticed it's only supported until Feb 2020. Since it was offered in the update manager I was under the impression I should install it Any issue with this? Should I go back to 4.15.xx sicme I never had issues with that one? I have no issues...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

Only thing a little buggy is keeping time This is a known issue. Windows keeps time locally, Linux uses UTC. You can resolve the inconsistency either way, but it's much easier to conform Linux to Windows than the other way around. Open Terminal and run timedatectl set-local-rtc 1 . That's it. Now W...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

Just an update after a couple months. All is working well. Only thing a little buggy is keeping time It's well know that one of the big differences between windows 10 and Linux mint is how they keep time. Well from time to time the time showing on the windows 10 OS is wrong. Since the two OS's aren'...

Leave it unchecked, those are users and not the system.
Thanks!!
I've been checking them because I thought it was my OS!!!
If all stays stable I'll delete everything I have besides first backup and change it
Thank you.

Re: Timeshift and the Settings

Sorry for my ignorance, but when I go to users tab, /root is excluded. Don't you want /root in your backup?
Or should I leave it unchecked?
Or is "/root" different than the "/" where my OS lives?

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

All is well!!! Boots to grub and gives option to boot to windows. All working well!! Boots back into Linux. Was able to partition spinning drive 700ntfs/300ext4 and set up for snapshots on ext4. Still don't know why bios only shows Kingston (Linux) drive. But all are in boot menu. So all in all a su...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

I threw a 1tb WD spinning drive in too so for Linux I won't have to use the external for timeshift. Should I configure that in Linux? Plan on pretty much splitting it 700ntfs/300ext4 That has to be done in Linux probably. But will windows see the ntfs petition on that drive? Plan to use between them...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

My fault there, should have you run sudo parted -l with Win10 drive installed to output partition information and confirm Win10 installation mode. Was this a Win7 upgraded to Win10? Yes lol. 7 to 10. Luckily the install is crazy fast on this system and it's not a new install. Just need to recharge ...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

Ok, so when I check boot menu in UEFi only, only Linux shows up. Says: UEFI: Built in EFI shell Ubuntu (sata2: Kingston) UEFi OS (sata2: Kingston Ubuntu When I boot in UEFi and legacy it shows the windows drive. Windows was installed with legacy and I should have just left my legacy install of Linux...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

Nope bios or grub can't see windows drive :-(
Gparted says it's there.
I don't understand. Unless it was also a legacy install but when I set bios to legacy and UEFi it still doesn't show.
It shows as there right when I boot and it lists drives.
I don't get it

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

Ok got it installed and it's UEFi, however I have no way to choose which SSD in bios. It's just the one with Linux, so I'm going to try the OS prober and see if I can get grub to find windows 10. Seems my older UEFi doesn't allow multiple OS bootloader's to show. The win SSD doesn't even show up in ...

Re: Adding dual boot- 2 drives - both already installed

Safest to install Mint and test Mint with the Win10 drive uninstalled, less chance of a mistake. Then re-install the Win10 drive, check that Win10 still boots, change UEFI boot order to put Mint before Win10 and then update GRUB. I'll give it a try, not sure when I can do it but I'll post back here...
