Re: VPN walkthrough for Noobs?

Any VPN that you choose will have step by step installation instructions on their download page. Most, if not all, also have a live chat help desk in case you strike any problems during set up. Free VPN services tend to be inferior to paid ones, they typically are slower and have fewer server locati...

Re: NordVPN confused

I don't know how the nordvpn app works but the private internet access app has an option in the settings for a killswitch. If the connection drops then the killswitch activates. Top Nord has this feature but it is only available in their app and they don't have a Linux app yet. (one is in developme...

Re: Questions before starting with Linux

I have LM19 Cinnamon installed on a Dell 3521 with the same processor and ram and it runs perfectly well. Switching from windows to Linux Mint is a very easy learning curve, they aren't all that dissimilar to use.

Re: Recommend trustworthy DNS Leak tools?

before I solved the problem I used to wrestle with DNS leaks regularly. I found that Astrill

Code: Select all

often found my true DNS when other tests said there was no leak

[Abandoned] Unable to import vpn config

I have installed Nordvpn as per instructions but cannot add a vpn connection to network manager. If I try to do so via network settings, after navigating to the config I want in ovpn_udp folder and clicking on the config I want to add the window closes. If I try to add a connection via network setti...

Re: Show cpu core temp in conky

sensors coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +54.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) Core 1: +54.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) The temps don't always read the same but they do follow each other up and down. I don't have much open other than this forum so the computer is almost i...

Re: Show cpu core temp in conky

51C is not your correct temperature it is a placebo output. run sensors to see what your temps are named did you run sudo sensors-detect I ran sensors|grep 'Core 0'|cut -c16-22 in a terminal and the temps shown by the conky match the output from that command. It's mid winter here and the ambient te...

Re: Show cpu core temp in conky

thanks :).
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... was the info I needed.

Code: Select all

${color 66FFFF}core 1 temp   ${color}${hwmon 0 temp 2}C ${alignc 60}
${color 66FFFF}core 2 temp   ${color}${hwmon 0 temp 3}C ${alignc 60}
was the script that worked but it takes some tweaking to make it work.

Show cpu core temp in conky

I've been trying to add cpu core temps to my conky, without success. I've read a dozen guides, most of which confuse me, without finding an answer. I have the command I need sorted, $ sensors|grep 'Core 0'|cut -c16-22 but don't know what to do with it. I need a "conky for dummies" guide. How and whe...

You're most welcome, though I'm certain that the irony of snafu-4.15.0-24-linux-kernel will need to be explained :mrgreen: I'm not sure I want to give my name to a kernel but since LM20 will presumably have a name starting with S I propose LM20 Snafu :mrgreen: Edit: On reflection I can see some dra...

Same result from that update here. Thankfully it was only a "dummy package", god knows what might have happened if it was a real one :lol:

Re: Lightning Tripping my Surge Protector

Does lightning nearby actually cause a surge of electricity strong enough to damage a computer if no surge protection is provided? Yes it most certainly can, and not only computers. The circuit boards controlling my fridge and washing machine were once fried by a nearby lightening strike during a t...
