Re: Completely uninstall snap/snap store etc.

I don't know your version and can't double check, but last time I had snap installed I did something like this: $ snap list to list everything that is installed with snap $ sudo snap remove x for everything installed with snap $ apt list --installed | grep snap to list everything that is installed ...

[Solved] Better to install Wine from Winehq.org?

I've installed Wine using the Software Manager, but after installation I noticed it was version 1.6. I then discovered that Wine is now at Version 5.0.2 on the Winehq.org website. Why is the version on Software Manager only Version 1.6? Will it still work as well? Should I uninstall the version I've...

Re: ~/.mozilla/firefox :How do I find this folder?

~/.mozilla/firefox Firefox was just an example. Reading threads on this forum there is mention of 'the above' and couldn't work out how to find the folder they mentioned. So to get any physical folder to show, it can be done by showing hidden folders? If I still couldn't find the folder I wanted can...

Re: Completely uninstall snap/snap store etc.

In the end I used Timeshift. First time I've used it. Everything seems to be alright after using it. That should have completely got rid of Snap? Any way of finding out if anything is left behind? I'm still completely new to Linux Mint: Running the commands above after using Timeshift, this won't ca...

~/.mozilla/firefox :How do I find this folder?

Reading some threads on this forum, there is mention of looking for certain folders such as: ~/.mozilla/firefox
How do I actually find this folder or other folders: Do I have to search for it somehow or use the Terminal?

[Solved] Completely uninstall snap/snap store etc.

LM 18.3 Mate 64bit I've done a search but wasn't sure with what some of the results were saying, so decided to ask myself to make sure I do what I need to do correctly. I wanted to try using 'Whipper' but could only get it using Snap. I installed 'snapd', 'snap store' and 'whipper'. I couldn't get a...

Clipboard Manager which can exclude programs?

LM 18.3 Mate 64bit I use Ditto on my Windows laptop and I'm looking for something similar. I want a Clipboard manager that can exclude programs and one where I can use 'Enter' (perhaps they all work this way?) to paste any clip shown in history, once selected. I've tried some from 'Software Manager'...

Firefox - Adding profile from Windows to Linux

I installed LM 18.3 a couple of years ago on a old Dell Windows Vista laptop to test LM out. I only tried very basic things like surfing the internet using Firefox. Just managing to install LM on the laptop was a proud accomplishment for me :) Recently bought a new Dell laptop with Windows 10 and it...

[Solved] Inspiron 15R SE 7520 - Firefox not working with live session

I decided to try linux Mint 20 on my oldish Dell Inspirion. I connected to my wifi but Firefox would not work. I also tested connecting to my Microsoft bluetooth mouse which worked straight away. Should Firefox be working during the live session and if it should, any idea what the problem is as I co...

Re: A few questions after install of 18.3 Mate 64bit

Thanks to you it's making a lot more sense now. Last couple of questions: Timeshift - I want to know that the settings I have set are right. Concerning the 'snapshot level'. I have set it to 'boot' but perhaps that is not the best option? I have a level 4 update appear 4.4.0-119.143 which I was surp...

Re: A few questions after install of 18.3 Mate 64bit

If you're currently using 4.13.0-37 kernel and everything works, I wouldn't downgrade to the 4.4 kernel. In case you misunderstood how kernel versions work; 4.4 is a lower version number than 4.13. Both are major version 4 with their minor version numbers being 4 and 13 respectively. I would remove...

Re: A few questions after install of 18.3 Mate 64bit

I've installed Chromium as a second browser.

4.4.0-116 does not seem to be booting at startup, even though I picked it from the grub menu?
4.13.0-37-generic is running.

Concerning the removal of old kernels. This is what is showing on my system:

Re: A few questions after install of 18.3 Mate 64bit

There are a lot of available kernels, yes. But how many show as installed? Like your active kernel version says "Active" on its line, installed but not active kernels says "Installed" on their line. Clicking those will give you the option to remove them. As for the fonts, you're not at the right pl...

Re: A few questions after install of 18.3 Mate 64bit

I've just checked again, and yes I am running 4.4.0-116 @Xenopeek: I'm still not too sure about which kernels to delete (there are so many of them). There are five fonts I can change but I'm not sure what each of them do: Application Document Desktop Window Title Fixed Width I will have a look at th...

[Solved]A few questions after install of 18.3 Mate 64bit

I very recently installed Linux Mint 18.3 Mate 64bit on a Dell laptop and have been following the '10 things to do first in Linux Mint 18.3 Mate' I have a few questions: I've watched videos on youtube and read articles about cleaning up old kernels, but I still don't understand what I am doing and d...

Re: Upgrade Mint 18.3 32bit to 64bit

You will have to install it from the USB stick as you did previously. And download the 64 bit ISO first of course. There are various reasons to use 64 bit: because for selected tasks it is faster, because it makes more complete use of the capabilities of the hardware, because some programs (like Go...
