Re: The joys of living in Rural Areas

Our generator is powerful enough to run the lights, computers/electronics, microwave, and in-wall heaters. But not the big stuff like fridge, washer/dryer, and hot water heater. ... I am pretty sure any microwave and in-wall heater eats a lot more power than about any normal and reasonably recent f...

Not to be unkind but you understand Linux, you understand harddisks, but you don't understand Clonezilla?

If you are good with Linux, why not use DD?

Re: Windows 10 vs Linux Mint

Primary reason: ...I am a 14 years old ... Not to be unkind but it is the age you try things, change opinions, change your view of life by the hour, as is in your post. And hey, Windows really has good points, as you described. On my i3 8GB laptop Windows 10 runs fine. It also did when it had 4GB. M...

Re: Camcorder Advice Please

Personal Video Camcorders are out of fashion. Get a good phone, a good photo camera, or a pro-digital cam. Recordings are a saved in a format any good video editor can handle.

...What I think I might try for shyts and giggles is to live boot a 17.3 Cinnamon DVD and see what happens. As I already am running this OS ver, if it hiccups then I can narrow it down from there. ... Good plan! I am currently on my Asus M3N78-VM with AMD Athlon64X2-5000+ and 4GB DDR2. Works good. ...

Re: Is my PC too Old?

Try to disconnect the hard disk and DVD then boot from usb. On an Asus probably the boot menu is called with F8. Does it still not boot? Other things to try: -in the bios what is the primary graphics setting? -remove memory modules, try them one by one. -remove everything else try to boot with as li...

Re: How to recover wiped/deleted/lost files from external drive?

brianstorm, consider your self lucky. And congrats on a job well done. It could have been worse. I stupidly yesterday deleted a 120GB folder from an external drive, remembered this topic, and installed testdisk to recover. It recovered a lot, but also a number of failed appeared, even though nothing...

Re: How do I unzip files in Linux Mint?

what does "and can it extract broken files" mean? If you mean archive files that were created into related multiple archive files by size or something, then yes the archive applications should be able to restore them if all the archive parts are all located in the same directory folder. Thank you f...

Re: How do I unzip files in Linux Mint?

Hi VinotheDog, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. What type of zip (archive) files are they, give an example name. How were they created by you or someone else, what application, and on MS Windows or Linux? Are they password protected and or encr...

Re: Should brand new USB sticks go immediately through "USB Stick Formatter?"

My 2 cents: don't format an USB stick unless you really have to. A new stick should be factory formatted by the best possible standard. Usually they are formatted with FAT32 filesystem. Should large files be saved and Windows compatibility demanded format to NTFS. If use is restricted to Linux forma...

I suppose if you buy a Dell from dell.dk it would be Danish specific. For what you want to do with it a basic i5 would be sufficient. You may expect a pre-installed Ubuntu to run without problems. Once you found your way to the applications you use you could live with Ubuntu I am sure. Only drawback...

Re: return to windows emotional support group

Well if you accept W10 the way MS wants you to it is great. If maybe you have some ideas of your own it can be a cruelty. Basset-Hound: don't worry. Being a long time Windows user I can't accept Windows 10 it in it's current state. I guess it's fine if you game or use multiple MS products, which I ...
