Re: New software update launched several screens I didnt understand

The number of pop-ups depend on the number of affected packages (services?) during the update. I've got two pop-ups on one machine, and a single pop-up on the other.

Re: New software update launched several screens I didnt understand

Reading this thread, I've got a feeling I may soon get a call from a couple friends who have a Windows PC which I converted to Linux Mint 19. If so, I hope they don't make me drive by their place...it's so out of my way.

Two network issues after restoring via Timeshift

I've got a network setup at home where a desktop PC is physically connected to the router and a laptop connected via WiFi. The other day, I tried installing Pi-Hole on the desktop but I could not make it to work and lost internet connection from the machine. So, I decided to restore the machine to i...

Re: Abiword documents trigger "Do you want to run... or display" dialog

Go to your file manager preferences. There must be a setting you can change there. There is one under Nemo (Cinnamon), but I don't know how it looks in MATE's file manager (you are using MATE, right?)

Re: New Wi-Fi adapter not working on Linux Mint 19.1

..Another question I have is what is the wire-thing that I have received with the new adapter? You can see the little old adapter to the right, then the new adapter in the middle which can be plugged directly into USB ports, & then that wire-thing with USB inlets... That looks like a USB extension ...

Re: New Wi-Fi adapter not working on Linux Mint 19.1

One of the reviewers of the adapter identifies it as Realtek RTL8811AU. If what HAWR linked to doesn't work, you may want to try any of these open-source drivers made for that adapter: https://github.com/sloretz/rtl8811au https://github.com/Rajpratik71/Realtek-rtl8811AU_8812AU_8821AU_linux-source-co...

Re: Malicious keylogger?

... I'm posting because I got the same spam last night, but return email address is one from my contact list which I haven't used in 4+ years. So I wonder how he got that?... It is more likely the email in your contact is the one which got compromised. Moreover, if you didn't do the things mentione...

Re: Do you use distros till its EOL ?

Yes, for my very old laptop which can only run at decent speed using antiX.

Yes, for my newer machines using Linux Mint. I don't think I will ever find another distro as convenient and easy to use as Mint.

Stupid question. Why update it if it's working? Of course I do install all updates offered by update manager, but that is all.
The all-in-one printer I recently bought is not supported in the HPLIP version installed in LMDE.

Re: Cell Phone Compatibility?

My android devices are very easy to connect to my Linux machines. When I connect my phone directly with a USB cable, the phone storage becomes an external drive and file transfer is handled using Nemo. When connecting thru WiFi, I use ES File Explorer app to connect to my Linux machine and file tran...

Wood? There are only two types of wood I'm interested in -- balsa wood (for RC planes) and ebony (for butterfly knife handles and martial art sticks). ;)

Re: Cannot install LM 19.1, blocked by AntiX

I would reinstall antiX and (manually) re-partition the drive in the process. I would split the partitions into two:
#1 - antiX - 10 GB
#2 - Linux Mint - the rest of the drive (approx 21 GB)

Re: Firefox 67.0+linuxmint2+tessa killed my Ubuntu Firefox profile

I encountered similar problems when I used to share a /home partition between 3 distros on multi-boot. Now I only share data partition between distros. A lot of things can go wrong setting up a common /home partition for use in multi-boot.

Re: Error attempting to change filesystem label on partition

I use GParted to label partitions on a multiboot machine I use. It is so easy...just make sure the partition you want to label is not mounted. If it is, simply unmount it, then click "Refresh Devices" in GParted. Then you can label the partition.

Re: Richard Stallnman Gnu Fsf compliant respective mint?

Out of the box Mint is certainly not compliant, nor is Linux in general for the reference kernel from kernel.org does already not comply with Stallman's principles... How about Debian (the official version)? Since there is Debian version which includes "non-free" software, I've been in the impressi...

It's unfortunate that fake news has infected just about everything. Was it really that long ago that journalists would actually vet their sources or, in the case of Mint, just ask Clem straight-up what's going on?
Nowadays, *journalists* would make up or twist stories to suit their agenda.
