Re: A sudden shutdown despite battery didn't lost its charge

What is the room temperature where you use your laptop for gaming? There are certain laptops with hardware auto-shut-off that kicks in when certain components overheats. Is there any sign of dusts accumulating inside your laptop? That would cause an overheat easily.

Re: A sudden shutdown despite battery didn't lost its charge

Sounds like a case of bad battery. It may appear fully charged under very low load but loses usable voltage when subjected to higher load. The battery indicator could falsely report more than 90% of remaining charge on a bad battery under moderate load.

I've got this feeling the OP is just trolling. If you've been an Ubuntu (or any other Linux distro) user for that long, you would not need to create this type of thread.

I'm sure COBOL is still being used by many banks...
I've got a friend who is just in his 20's working for a multi-national company and he programs in COBOL.

COBOL and RPG are still alive.

Re: 750 MB. WOW! "What would you do with SO MUCH hard disc space ?"

I'll beat that. My first 'puter was a genuine IBM XT , 8088 processor, with a 10 meg hard drive. The shop told me "you will never fill that hard drive." He was right! Good ole DOS days!!! I did not have my own computer back then, but I did use those machines when I was 18 working as a beginner prog...

Have you tried "NoScript"? It's a browser extension available for FF and Chromium.

Re: Friday song

I came across that YT video from 9 years ago. What happened was I noticed a friend of mine kept listening to the same song, so I ask if that's his favorite. He said the girl's voice was so bad, so I asked him again, "You keep listening to that song because you think the girl's voice is bad?" (it did...

I use Netbeans IDE for C/C++, Java, and HTML5. It's got code completion, debug/trace, and source code version control.

Re: Tina is the TOP news item in the final issue of Linux Journal

If that is really the "final issue" of Linux Journal, that is sad!!!! It is sad, because that is my main source of Linux news. If you check the home page, it says: IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM LINUX JOURNAL, LLC: On August 7, 2019, Linux Journal shut its doors for good. All staff were laid off and the com...

Why, they are not contradicting anything I said, they're just talking about the installer, and I agree with them that the choice to make there is not to use swap, I've said that all along. You only add swap after you rebooted into your installed system. I think you misunderstood...Debian will find ...

Re: [Solved] Kernel 4.15.0-55 installed but cannot be activated

I believe you may have misunderstood something for I have seen no such statement in the thread (and I just checked again), or maybe you were thinking of a different thread. Anyway, doesn't really matter, you'll figure it out. ;) Here: I hadn't tried recently, so I booted the Debian 9.3 multiarch ne...

Re: [Solved] Kernel 4.15.0-55 installed but cannot be activated

Actually I wasn't thinking of modifying the installer, just of using the manual partitioning option in the installer and either not selecting the swap partition there or choosing not to format it (I don't recall if the latter option exists in the vanilla Debian installer). For your research: https:...

Re: Kernel 4.15.0-55 installed but cannot be activated

Sounds like it formats it (runs mkswap on it), so changing that option in the installer would probably prevent that. An experienced user at the Debian forum actually advised me to file a bug report for that. I wonder what I could be doing now if I had the skills to modify the ISO installer myself. ...

I'm surprised you didn't run into the same situation before already then. And you will again on those other operating systems when you update their kernels. Running update-grub on the Mint system every time you update the kernel on one of the others will take care of it though.... I did experience ...
