SOLVED Re: usb mounting issue with more than one user

Yes, Thunar itself. If I in Thunar -> Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Enable Volume Management / Configure -> Storage deselect all "Removable Storage" options, i.e., set them not automount/open, I can switch users via the Lock Screen to my heart's content and just manually mount/unmount the stic...

Re: usb mounting issue with more than one user

There may be some timeout pending currently. Did you reboot? If so, I can not reproduce; the active, "foreground" user gets the USB stick mounted under its /media/<user> when inserting it. 1. rebooted 2. logged in as user 2, inserted drive - mounted; then unmounted; switched users 3. logged in as u...

Re: usb mounting issue with more than one user

Right. So if you remove that last line things should start to behave. did that, no difference. user 2 still gets message "operation pending" then if you login as user 1, they have a message there prompting for password "an application is attempting an operation..." that same file: cat /etc/fstab # ...

Re: usb mounting issue with more than one user

The fact that it mounts somewhere under /mnt rather /media/<user> seems to mean the device has a dedicated /etc/fstab line. If so, why? Normal is to not list e.g. USB drives anywhere; to just have them automount under /media/<user> -- and things work for a non-admin user using that default setup on...

Try adding user2 to plugdev group.
Checked in "Users and Groups" - he is already part of that group

I'm not sure, but I don't think Mint recognizes NTFS formatted USB's.
sorry, but user 1 has no issue with that drive
can you please kindly read my original post
maybe - the problem is with permission of some sort - non-admin user can't mount external media for some reason

Re: usb mounting issue with more than one user

Did you reformat the USB to fat32 or just delete the contents? If just deleted, try reformat and see if it gets recognized. I can, but - like I said, User 2 experiences this issue with other flash drives as well. He wants to be able t use those, without reformatting them and losing the data. What d...

What is the content of the USB drive (data, encrypted data, executable file etc.)?
User 2 experiences this issue with any USB flash dive
this particular dive I am testing now is empty, I deleted all files including "volume data information"
it was used on Windows previously

usb mounting issue with more than one user

Hi there! Using Mint 19; have two users: User 1 (admin), User 2 (not admin). When user 2 inserts a USB flash drive, he can not open it and gets a message "operation already pending". But User 1 gets a prompt to enter his password. Until he does, the flash drive is not mounted. The flash drive mounts...

Try printing to a soft copy and then print it.
you mean - print to file; which will create another PDF; and then print that new PDF?
tried- same error

Re: usb printer will not print multi-page PDF

So, then apt install libstdc++5 and still no success, but the error_log tells me that access to pstoalc1100.sh was denied (which it did not do before). Ok, I tried chmod 755 /usr/bin/pstoalc1100.sh Now I am a happy camper. That did not help, sorry ... It is ONLY pdf that I can't print more than one...

Re: headphone and mic jack not working

You're quite welcome. Do let us know if you manage to work around this issue. Just a heads up, I noticed pavucontrol's Input Devices tab always had Microphone (unplugged) even when something was plugged in to the port when I tried to add the Headset option. There are a couple of options that should...

Well, I have one potentially helpful option. Plugging the buds into this, then using both ports should work as you'd expect: https://www.amazon.com/KINGTOP-Headset- ... lp_pl_dp_1
Thanks a lot for all your efforts anyway!

Re: headphone and mic jack not working

Try selecting the even though it says unplugged, and unmuting it in alsamixer. Does that make any difference? Also unmute the Headphone column right next to Master. You won't be able to increase volume on that one, it's just a switch. If still no luck, I'll try to get a headset tonight and see what...

Re: headphone and mic jack not working

I guess I could get a microphone and plug into that jack, and headphones into the other and use skype that way
but it would be nicer to get the damn headset working. I use same headset on HP Envy laptop with Mint 19 on it, no problem
