Re: Help! I broke the package system...

Yes you are right. I subsequently fixed it by trying to install from command line, and getting error message about dependencies, and re-installing those

Re: Can't install software
This is just a hunch... probably nothing to it. I see that vlc has recursive dependencies libc6 and libglib , both of which had some version bugs in the past affecting other people. It's possible that the issue is buried deep under several layers of dependencies that "but it is not going to be...

Re: Can't install software
Strange, I thought that Mint stopped using vlc in Mint 20.x & that it was replaced with Celluloid. You could try entering the following, 1 line at a time, in terminal. sudo apt --fix-missing update sudo apt update sudo apt install -f If that doesn't work then sudo dpkg --configure -a sudo dpkg ...

understand--yet youtube-dl is not regularly updated as it used to be. Many now use the forked yt-dlp because of regular updates and special features--it's available in GitHub. Absolute bliss with aria2 in the repositories actually, can you have a look at this - what does it mean "no active sou...

Re: Help! I broke the package system...
I edited my reply. My guess--your normal repositories were down at the time of your update inquiry--it happens. The xenial repo references are questionable for Mint 20x -- just saying Sorry, my friend, I am not quite following the logic of all this. I guess I just don't understand much about it all...
