Re: i3-WM / i3-Gaps
I've been an exclusive i3-wm user for around 7-8 years, so I figured I would start a thread to let people know it exists. It's a great lightweight, keyboard-focused tiling window manager with straightforward configuration syntax, lots of cool features, and excellent documentation. It's especially i...

Re: open box
Better yet, download crunchbang++ https://crunchbangplusplus.org/ There's little or no reason to change distros just to change window managers. IIRC,crunchbang isn't actually very "light". I use fluxbox (like openbox but better) with mint, no problem. I have fluxbox and xfce sessions. I r...

Re: open box
But it's just a window manager, not a desktop environment. By default, it will give you a menu on the desktop though, so it is useable as a standalone. If you want to have other things, like a dock, or desktop file manager, you will need to install other programs and to configure your openbox sessi...

Re: Collapsible Systray applet for xfce?
Yeah, you should be able to right click on the notification area and select properties. From there you can choose which icons to hide and which to show always on the panel. You can then open and close the notification area by clicking on the arrow.

I guess it's more for cloning than backing up, but yes. I personalise my DE, create an iso, and install the exact copy onto my laptop - apps, passwords and all

Re: Survey: Which DE/WM do you use on Mint?
I'm just curious about the numbers and I can't find them anywhere here on the forum. You can find a pie chart on the community website, https://community.linuxmint.com/ ksnip210424-0941.png I use, MATE DE with Compiz WM. Thanks for the link @rickNS. I wonder how up-to-date this is given that it say...

Re: Survey: Which DE/WM do you use on Mint?
Hey there deanr72 , didn't you start exactly the same poll over on the MXLinux forum this morning also? Over there, I voted XFCE because, well... Here I voted Cinnamon, because, well... However, I run more computers with the XFCE desktop than any other, but my everyday main rig sports KDE. Ha, ha -...

Re: Remove keyring PW
I've just done this too. Is there any advantage to seahorse at all when all browsers have there own password manager - not to mention if you use keepassx or something like that too, like I do? I agree it's annoying to have this by default. And is this the reason why I have to re-enter all my passwor...

Re: Redshift and geoclue2 [WORKAROUND]
Just in case it helps... The easiest work around I found for Redshift problems was to create a 'Redshift' folder inside folder .config and then create a file called 'redshift' with the following: [manual] lat=48.1 lon=11.6 Obviously, you'd need to set the latitude and longitude to your own location ...

Re: xfce: Keyboard shortcuts in Window Manager don't work right?
Old thread, same problem. I spend a lot of time setting up key bindings only to find on reboot some of them don't work again. This is becoming very frustrating. I've learned not to use Super as these don't work for window settings so I've switched to ALT instead. So, for example, I've set the follow...

Re: Time To Stay With Linux Mint
Mint Cinnamon was my second distro after starting out on Ubuntu Mate. Since then I've hopped around and then settled down for some time on each of the following: - Mint XFCE - Kubuntu - Manjaro XFCE - Q4OS Plasma - MX-Plasma - Crunchbang ++ - MX-XFCE As of last week I have Mint XFCE installed on all...

Re: Conky Manager - Unable To Install
I've just returned to Mint XFCE after an extended time away with MX-KDE and then openbox. I was very pleased to see that the links here and the instructions still work and lead to a very simple conky install. I thought that in itself was perhaps worthy of a bump as getting conky and conky-manager wo...

Re: Editing Right Click Menu
I've marked this thread as solved as I've managed to piece together bits of info and make my openbox-like right click menu just as I was hoping to. How? Firstly, turn off the display of icons on the desktop (Settings Manager >> Desktop >> Icons >> "Icon Type" = None). Secondly, use the Men...
