Re: Using wget to download the newest version of Virtualbox

Hey catweazel, Thank you for the quick followup. I've looked at the sources.list, but it is empty. I have a sources.list.d that has multiple install files. Not sure how to use them as per your previous post. I have Aptik and Aptik-gtk installed. I've used it in the past to make a backup. It looks li...

Using wget to download the newest version of Virtualbox

I'm in the process of creating a script to download and install all my currently installed software in the event of failure or new system install. I'm fairly new to scripting, but it's coming along. I'm currently using wget to download the newest Google Chrome. It seems to be very straight forward (...

Re: Software rendering with LMDE on external SSD

Hey Fuzzy,

Thanks for the link. I hadn't found any possible solution for many days, so I decided to replace LMDE without fixing the issue.

Hey begati,

Not sure about the command line. However, if the programs are in the start menu you can right click and add to panel.

[Closed] Software rendering with LMDE on external SSD

I'm currently testing LMDE 3 out on an external SSD. I'm having an issue with it running in software rendering. I don't seem to have any adjustments available. I've been searching for solutions, but most everything that I'm finding is linked to virtual machines. Any help would be appreciated. brett@...

Re: Ransomware

Hey Matt,

What if your computer gets infected with Ransomware today and you don't know. Tomorrow you restart your computer and the backup runs as you have stated. Did you just infect your backup????

After further review, I believe Carl suggested the same thing.

Re: how to connect to a tv with a hdmi

I thought I'd share another possible solution when connecting to newer tv's. Most of them will have an "Aspect Ratio" option that you can change to properly fit your computer input to the tv. :D

Re: [Closed] How to repair formatted home directory

AndyMH,

I have basically the same thing as you describe and would recommend that everyone have a similar process. I just finished improving my documentation and my backup process. I should be much better protected from any future mistakes and in a much easier spot when it comes to upgrades.

Re: How to repair formatted home directory

I lost all my Timeshift backups when I accidentally formatted my Home directory. Every once and a while I save a manual Timeshift to an external drive (just in case). The only one I had was from about a month ago. I've gone through the whole setup process and got the system back to where I can remem...

Re: How to repair formatted home directory

Hey decrepit, I did have an earlier Timeshift backup available. In my previous post, I mentioned that I reinstalled Mint on my system then I did a Timeshift restore and it ran into the issues I described above. I've used Timeshift many times and it has always worked flawlessly. Not sure what was dif...

Re: How to repair formatted home directory

Not sure about creating the new home and then adjusting the auto-mount. New information I reinstalled Mint and everything went great as expected. After installation, I ran a Timeshift restore. The funny thing is (or not so funny) it brings me to the same screen that I was getting to after formatting...

Re: How to copy directory with LiveCD that needs permission

I figured out that the external drive was Fat32. I reformatted and tried again. Everything looked good until about 40% when I got a new error. Error opening file xxxxxxxxxxxx/Logs/VBox.log.3:Permission denied Not sure if this file is important or not in getting the virtual machine up and running aga...

Re: How to copy directory with LiveCD that needs permission

Hey Pjotr, I tried this, but I still get the same error The folder "Windows 10" cannot be handled because you don't have permissions to read it Figured out that I can now change the permissions with the elevated privilege. Now I get a new error. Error splicing file: File too large File is about 70GB...

[Solved] How to copy directory with LiveCD that needs permission

I messed up my Linux install by accidentally formatting my Home directory. I've asked another question in the forum to see if there is a way to fix this. If not, I will have to do a new install. I have most everything backed up so it won't be so bad. However, one thing I don't have backed up is a Wi...
