Samba very slow to connect

I recently upgraded to LM 20 Cinnamon. After the upgrade, I decided to set up Samba on my main machine (LM 20) to share with my other devices. When the Samba drive finally shows up, it seems to work very well. However, it can take more than an hour for it to show up. The other devices that I'm using...

Re: Hard drive full message Linux Mint 20

Found the problem. After the upgrade to Linux Mint 20, my backup program (Aptik) started backing up to a new directory in Media instead of my external drive. I have updated Aptik to point to my external drive again and I've deleted all the new backup files causing my SSD to become full.

Re: Hard drive full message Linux Mint 20

Hey Flemur...I ran sudo du -hx / | sort -h as you recommended and I found 83G /root/.local/share/Trash/files to be the culprit. Based on the files and directories that I'm finding in there, I'm guessing they were added there as part of the upgrade to Linux Mint 20. I'm assuming that I can delete eve...

[Solved] Hard drive full message Linux Mint 20

I updated to Linux Mint 20 a few weeks ago. Starting a couple of days ago, I've started seeing a message that says my hard drive is full. I ran the examine option on the popup message. It doesn't check the root folders, but what it does check shows that I'm currently using 25G of 125G. I have a dual...

Re: Can't share external drive using Samba

Thanks Kadaitcha Man! I will try updating my smb file similar to what you have posted to see if it helps. I understand this is just a example of what your smb file looks like. If you add another shared file/drive, would you duplicate the instructions (or similar) again below that drive? I've added t...

[Solved] Can't share external drive using Samba

I'm trying to share one of my external drives using Samba, but I keep running into errors. The first error that I run into is the name is too long When I try to shorten it, I get the error The permissions for Wrong number of arguments prevent others from accessing the share I checked the ownership o...

[Solved] How to make Celluloid flatpak start full screen

I have installed the flatpak version of Celluloid. It is working well, but doesn't start in full screen. Once it starts, I can press the "f" key to go to full screen. In the Settings/keyfile I can switch maximized to true. This gives me a full windowed screen, but not a full screen. I tried changing...

Mirror updates and downloads very slow

Starting today, my mirror updates and downloads have become incredible slow. As I type, I'm setting my software sources to default to help rule out some issues. It's been over 5 minutes, and it still hasn't completed updating the cache. I use Expressvpn, but I've tested with it on and off without an...

Re: sudo apt upgrade not upgrading everything

Hey Flemur, I've have previously run the sudo apt upgrade and it showed nothing to upgrade. My understanding from what I read, when it shows "get" at the beginning then an update is available. In this case you are saying these are just repos that are being checked. Is my understand of "get" incorrec...

Hey Kendoori,

Not sure if you are still looking for this, but I've had it installed and working fine on LM Cinnamon for over a year. I installed it using the deb file. Let me know.

Re: Can't access Software Sources in Update Manager

Hey pbear, I've been running Linux Mint for a while now. Been on 19.3 for a couple of month's. No issues (that I haven't caused  ). The only thing I did prior to this issue was install docker. When I was done playing (should have played in virtual machine), I uninstalled. During the uninstall, ...

[Closed] Can't access Software Sources in Update Manager

Hey Guys, I caused myself some issues today playing around with Docker. When I was done, I decided to uninstall it. I believe it was the following command that started my issues. curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key remove - As the command was running, I noticed ite...

Re: Installed software without entering password

Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick followup. I've reviewed some information explaining Flatpaks and have a better understanding now. Not sure I like the disconnect from how Linux downloads have worked in the past, but at least I understand what is going on.

Re: Installed software without entering password

Hey pbear,

It was definitely installed as a flatpak. Don't flatpak's require admin password?

Code: Select all

brett@brett-Inspiron-3470:~$ flatpak list
Ref Options

[Solved] Installed software without entering password

I just installed Gnome Contacts and all the dependencies using the Software Manager and I didn't have to input my password. I haven't run the Software Manager in at least 12hrs. This is the first time I have ever seen this happen and it obviously presents a vulnerability. Is there any recommendation...
