Hi gbarquero, Welcome to Linux Mint!!! I don't think it is possible to do what you are requesting, but I'm no expert. I am also in Houston. Our HLUG (Houston Linux Users Group) meets every Wednesday evening at HAL-PC (Houston Area League of PC Users). We help people install distros and troubleshoot ...

Hi Carlos, Well, I tried what you suggested for xserver, went through all the questions, but had no luck. I wanted to retrieve my documents, pictures, downloaded themes from gnome-look.org, and other goodies. So I booted into PCLinuxOS and was able get to my LinuxMint /home directory to put everythi...

GDM not running....

I think my problem is the GDM is not running, as I've seen this message a couple of times.

How do I get GDM running again?

Many thanks in advance,

Richard L.

cannot login...no login screen

I was exploring mintconfig and saw login photo. So I chose a photo, then restarted the computer. After booting up it never gets to the login screen so that I can log in. I just get a black background with the little round icon spinning around. I went into Recovery Mode, typed in my password and star...

OpenOffice Quickstarter to Gnome Panel

I kept searching through Synaptic Package Manager to download and install the OooQuickstarter for Gnome, but there wasn't any. AND, there's no need to! It's built right into Open Office already!!! It is easy in Linux Mint to add the OpenOfficed Quickstarter to the Panel. Open up a text document (i.e...

SOLVED!

The way to remove all these fonts is to use the Synaptic Package Manager. Click on Search and type in fonts. There are about 12 folders with these Middle Eastern and Indian fonts. In order for them to be removed from the list in OpenOffice completely, in Synaptic you must choose "Mark for Compl...

Hi Ede,

Yes, in fact I rebooted.

Thanks. Since it shouldn't harm any other software, I'll proceed.

(Sorry for being a little grumpy...I had just received news that my nephew is in a hospice and may not live past this weekend.)

Thanks Ede for the advice, I had already tried your suggestion before posting. However, when I opened up Writer again, the long list was there, but the 50 or so fonts were disabled (because they weren't there). So the only way to make the list short is to actually remove them from the actual fonts f...

Many thanks, speakr219.

Do I need to do this as root? That is, by opening the Run command and typing gksu or gksudo nautilus?

Or can I just do this as user?

Also, do you or anyone else know if these Indian/Middle Eastern fonts are required by other apps outside of OpenOffice?

How do I remove unwanted fonts?

I have installed the Microsoft Core fonts. However, there is a long list of fonts that come with Ubuntu based distros that are from India and the Middle East. When I wish to switch fonts in OpenOffice, the list is very long and I wish to shorten it to make font switching faster. How can I remove som...

Hi tekmate, Thanks for you reply and sorry for replying back in 6 days. I have been using the run command and typing kcontrol. I just thought it strange that I couldn't find it on the menu. However, i did find it and am surprised no one told me where. Instead of being called KDE Control Center, it i...

Works in KDE, too!

Thanks Uncle Bob, I just installed Linux Mint Bianca KDEmini on June 21. Today (June 22) I followed your instructions and successfully got OOo2.2.1. Your instructions worked like a charm in KDE! All the OOo apps appear in the KDE/Bianca Tasty Menu. Additionally, I made a desktop shortcut (link to ap...

Where is the KDE Control Center

I am unable to find the KDE Control Center in the Bianca Menu after much searching.

Is it in the menu? If not, how do I get it in the menu, please?

Thanks,

Richard L.

Configuring Realplayer in Firefox

I have discovered that on certain websites, the mplayerplugins for Realplayer will not work to play certain videos and that only by installing Realplayer will everything work completely. I know that many Linux users prefer to play Realplayer videos on the web with other media players, such as Kaffei...

Thanks Clem, I went to /usr/lib/firefox/plugins. I don't use cli much and am a nontechie, but this is what I did: cd /usr/lib/firefox/plugins Then I did ls -l I discovered the folder already had Realplayer's nphelix.so and nphelix.xpt in it. I did a "sudo rm mplayerplug-in-rm.so mplayerplug-in-...

Hi Clem, Thanks for your quick reply. While in about:plugins, I right-clicked on mplayerplugin and all it did was to send me to its website. I also know that somehow I may have to manually put realplayer plugin in the plugins folder of Firefox, but I don't know how to do this. Also, my apologies for...

Cassandra and Realplayer in Firefox

I have downloaded Realplayer using Linux Mint's Synaptic Package Manager. I opened it up and followed the steps to intall it for Firefox. I did this because there are a few websites I use that will only work with Realplayer and not Mplayer, or they just work better with Realplayer. One of them is wh...
