Re: 2nd Monitor Problems

It sucks, but it's not really Mint or cinnamon's fault. All Linux has for this situation currently is work-arounds. You could try display scaling using xrandr (commnad line) and/or arandr to scale either display so there is no disparity between displays. Setting both displays to the same resolution ...

Re: How to switch off HiDPI scaling for individual applications

I stumbled across this the other day and remembered this post!

https://github.com/kaueraal/run_scaled

It does exactly what you are looking for. I use it to play Wesnoth (no HiDPI support) on a 4k screen.

Re: How to switch off HiDPI scaling for individual applications

Whoops, sorry I missed that... Did you try launching the program with GDK_SCALE=1 or GDK_SCALE=0.5? I can't remember what Cinammon's default HDPI multiplier is, but if you undo that scaling right multiplier with GDK_SCALE for netbeans it should launch un-scaled. Also, take a look at: http://wiki.net...

Re: How to switch off HiDPI scaling for individual applications

I don's use Cinnamon, but these are the parameters that I muck with to get GTK scaling correct in KDE are:

GDK_SCALE=2
GDK_DPI_SCALE=0.5

The first line doubles the scaling for all elements, the second line removes the scaling for fonts.

Re: Changed DE's ReFind still shows old DE

Brilliant, you are correct! I don't even need to check it, I remember labeling that partition so when I did the install - then I just got lazy with the rest because I was swapping out OS's so much for testing. Thanks!!!

Re: Changed DE's ReFind still shows old DE

Yeah, I wish I could take a screen shot of the refind screen it would be much more clear. I do in fact see the text "Boot /boot/vmlinuz-somenumber from X GB ext4 volume MATE" in refind. It's really similar to what you posted, but has the additional MATE on it. Which is odd because non of my other li...

Changed DE's ReFind still shows old DE

I wanted to test Mint 19 cinammon, so I installed it over my previous 18.3 Mate version. Everything wen fine, but when I boot up Refind still reads something like "Linux Mint <kernel version> Mate" when I select Mint as my desired distro during boot up. I tried reinstalling grub and updating to the ...

Re: Some random thoughts on Mint vs o/s X +Windows 10

Trackpad bug only occurs in cinammon from my experience (in MATE the setting to disable the touchpad while typing works). You can download a program called touchpad indicator and make it load on startup. It is a work around to the touchpad problem on cinnamon.

Cinammon 4k HPDI Settings

I can see where I enable the HDPI scaling in CInammon, the HDPI setting looks great at 2560x1600 but the icons and text are still small when viewed on my new laptop with a 4K screen (3200x1800). I am assuming this setting is just setting an integer multiplier. Is there a way to increase this multipl...

Re: How do I remove or unlock the window list applet?

Thank you!! I switched to a light theme and still don't see the dots, but right clicking just to the left in the area I highlighted green works. That theme is one of the default Mint themes. Is there a trick to making the dots appear? I tried looking for them with panel preferences open and such, bu...

Re: Problem with resume from suspend, 18.2 Cinnamon

For what it is worth I had the same issue on a macbook pro (2007) vintage and an old thinkpad with Cinammon. Drove me nuts since I use the laptops for AVR development, so I go back and fourth between tinkering with circuits and my laptop. Having to restart all the time was a bummer. I REALLY liked e...

How do I remove or unlock the window list applet? [Solved]

I've been using Mate for about 6 months now was playing with applets on my panel. I added a second window list applet, but I can't figure out how to move it or remove it. I know that I could reset the panel, but I'm really interest in a way to move and unlock the applet so I can configure the panel ...

Re: Fresh Install of 18.3

If I choose to overwrite my configuration files would that be the same as a fresh install? The reason I'm cautious of the upgrade path is that I did a lot of learning linux on my 18.2 install and did some things to it that didn't break the OS, but I don't think I can easily fix without a clean insta...

Fresh Install of 18.3

I have an older macbook pro (2007ish) that I have been running Mint 18.2 on for a while and want to do a fresh install to 18.3. I downloaded and verified the MATE 32 bit ISO verified it, and used the tool that comes with Mint to create a USB boot disk with the ISO I downloaded. However, when I resta...
