Re: Linus Torvalds doubts Linux will get ported to Apple M1 hardware

, but I take the viewpoint of the average, everyday user which is one benefits much more from a libre world than from what Apple purports to represent. I agree with the sentiment of your post but I differ on the last statement. I live in a mostly senior community in southern Florida. I taught begin...

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.

I have a lot of computers. Many of them run Windows but I rarely use them except to update once a month. Yesterday I went to do an update on one of the machines and the update failed. I decided to restore to restore point, that is a built in Windows program. The machine struggled for 3 hours and the...

Re: clonezilla has to be booted as legacy

I've now tried two Ubuntu based version and that doesn't work for me either. And I reread what was said at the Clonezilla site and under the Debian version they do say it supports UEFI if the AMD64 option is taken. This is from the site: (Notice it mentions UEFI booting under both Ubuntu and Debian)...

Re: clonezilla has to be booted as legacy

I've been a long time Clonezilla user. I was reading this thread and I got curious. I have quite a few machines. All of them boot in BIOS or CSM. I started testing by changing over to UEFI with and without secure boot and found that I could not boot Clonezilla. It would only boot in CSM or BIOS. So ...

Re: Running Mint on a chromebook pixel

Thanks for posting this. I saved the link for future use. I have a 1+ year old HP Chromebook that I bought to just learn about Chromebooks and the Chrome OS. I suspect that in about 4 years I might do the conversion. My machine is running the beta Linux container so it is possible that some years ou...

I would just set up bookmarks to the frequently used folders. Then you can save or save as with one or two clicks.

Re: Keyboard malfunctions after suspend

I experienced the problem with an 11 year old HP laptop. That laptop is running Mint Mate with Kernel 4.15. I temporarily installed another OS and that is when I had the suspend issue. Mine was a little different than yours. After suspend I could not log back in because the keys typed the wrong char...

Re: Keyboard malfunctions after suspend

I've seen somewhat similar problems with older laptops when the OS is updated. Sometimes after a suspend the keyboard doesn't work properly. I've only found two solutions. One is sticking with 19 and the other is shutting off suspend. This problem is not specific to Mint but effects other OS also. B...

Re: Thunderbird to Nemo drag and drop not working

I'm new to Thunderbird and running it in MX Linux. I tried dragging an attachment into the file manager and I didn't get an error but it just did not work. Thunderbird version is 68.10.0.

Re: Panda PAU07 adapter - finds and connects to 2.4g but cannot see 5g

You can try this. It worked for me with a Panda dongle.
open: /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and add this to the bottom of text:

[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no

reboot your machine and see how it works.

Re: Just want to install Linux Mint 19.2 and use it

I believe you have an Intel Pentium SU4100 not 5U4100. That is very low powered to run a modern operating system. If you are determined to use it and want to run Linux you might want to consider trying Mint Xfce to see if you have better results. If that doesn't work try something like AntiX. Curiou...

I made the break 4.5 years ago. Glad I did. Occasionally I still work on a Windows machine for special jobs. But it is rare. And when I go back to Mint I breath a thankful sigh of relief.

Re: USB flash/thumb drives can ONLY be ejected, but not unmounted in GUI ?

You can unmount it using Gparted by right clicking the drive once it's highlighted and choose unmount. Yes, and I think that the reason that this "deficiency" in Nemo never bothered me is because I automatically go to Gparted for most of the operations that would involve unmounting. There...

Re: Best backup utility for Mint 19.2?

I think keeping your system safe involves a number of steps starting from when it is first set up. I am from the old school so I like to have my data on a separate physical drive. Each night I back up the data to an external drive by compressing it into an archive (tar.gz) located on an external dri...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy Mate 64bits, and then ?

There is Ubuntu Mate, the official flavor of Ubuntu. This is not the standard Ubuntu with the Mate desktop added. This is the site: https://ubuntu-mate.org/ This distro has about 6 different work flow arrangements for the desktop and has one that kind of copies the Mac theme. I've been running Ubunt...

Thanks.

I finally got everything straightened out and the program installed. Now I am running into what I believe are bugs in the program. That might be the subject for another thread.
