Re: XSane making me crazy

Kester makes a very sound point. Several people have had success after removing ippusbxd. Just one other clutching at straws possibility. When you installed Epson's own Linux version of the All-in-one driver did you then run the Driver Manager to see if it picked it up and allowed you to select it? ...

Re: Is there a way to customize the color of the Cinnamox Willow Grove theme (or any other theme)?

How determined are you? It can be done but it could be quite a lengthy process. The good news is that you can do it a bit at a time as and when you have time to spare. Essentially, there are three files in your theme some or all of which you will need to edit to get the effect you want. /usr/share/t...

Re: Tor Browser update failure [SOLVED]

Congratulations! After a few days, if you are still happy and not experiencing any problems, I would delete those renamed leftover files. There is no point cluttering up your system.

Re: Loading Mint 20 get BLANK screen.

It's probably your video card. There are two things you can try. 1. Presumably you are using the one time boot selection screen by rapidly tapping F7 or F10 or F12 or whatever key it is for your computer when you see the splash screen at start up (rather than having changed your boot order in BIOS)....

Re: Tor Browser update failure

I think they are probably responsible for your conflict and I would just delete them as a clean installation will create what it needs to function. If you want to hedge your bets, before you delete them make a note of where they are and copy them to a location outside your file system first (park th...

Re: XSane making me crazy

I always forget to try the obvious first! Here is a link to the Epson driver download page. Type XP-7100 in the product name box and then select Linux as your operating system and press enter. The scanner driver you want is the bottom one in the table. It looks like it was only released this month. ...

Re: XSane making me crazy

Sorry. I didn't look at it closely enough to realise it is a paid item. It looked free at a glance. However, the article does seem to confirm that you will need to find a driver which will make all the scanner facilities available. I'll have another dig in the Sane Project page later and see if I ca...

Re: XSane making me crazy

If it is working with Simple Scan but not XSane then I think the problem is the driver. I normally find compatible drivers on the Sane Project page for my older scanners but I couldn't find one for your Epson. I did, however, find this which I think explains your problem and gives you a solution: ht...

Re: Tor Browser update failure

Sorry, bad use of terminology on my part. I didn't mean uninstall in the usual way. All you have to do is find and delete the folder tor-browser_en-US (assuming you have the English version installed). The folder will be wherever you extracted the files from the tarball to. It is possible that you m...

Re: Getting Google calendar notifications on my desktop

I use Evolution email client to manage my email accounts and I have the Google calendar synchronised with it (the only bit of Google I use) so that's how I get my calendar notifications on my desktop. However, I think this link will probably achieve what you are trying to do: https://blog.softhints....

Re: Evolution 403 errors

I use Evolution for email and synchronised calendars and it is pretty much trouble-free. My email addresses are subscription services and I (reluctantly) use Google Calendar (but nothing else Google) as it was the only way to get a satisfactory calendar synchronisation with my Android phone. I have ...

Re: XSane making me crazy

The first thing I would try is scanning using Document Scanner (called Simple Scan prior to LM20) instead of Xsane. You don't say what version of Mint you are using or which desktop but it should already be present in your Mint Menu or, if not, it is available from Software Manager. It is simple and...

Re: Tor Browser update failure

I would be inclined to purge TOR from your system, download the latest tarball and start afresh. It's the only sure way to make certain you get rid of anything odd. A fresh installation is quick and easy and you will be sure it is healthy. When I started TOR earlier this week it wanted to update bec...

Re: Change language for Update Manager

You must set the Language Interface to English United Kingdom and then click apply system wide. Then you need to do a restart and when the system comes back there should be a window asking if you want to rename all the folders to the new language or retain the existing names. You must select the ren...

Re: [SOLVED] Try to install...failing

My pre-upgrade LM19.3 Timeshift is dated 12 July so it is more than likely it was done after you had already done your desktop install so there could well have been a bug fixed in between.

The installation messages you have seen today are exactly as I remember seeing them.

Re: Linux 20 Cinnamon taskbar

The Grouped Window List is probably the culprit. It seems, from what I have read, it can be problematical. I have it turned off. It is unlikely to cause you any problems if you turn it off and you can always turn it back on again. Go to All Applications > Applets in the menu. Scroll down until you f...

Re: Linux 20 Cinnamon taskbar

Hello, Bodill. Happy to see you have been able to distil out of the input from us all what you need to get what you want. NOTE: I don’t know if this is unusual, but when I activate “Panel edit mode”, left clicking on the “LM” at the left end of the taskbar gets nothing but a little bubble that says,...

Re: Mint 20 install: all okay except... no readable characters

Interesting. I suspect a gremiln. After my upgrade from LM19.3 to LM20 I had exactly that issue but only with the Character Map table where some, but not all, characters were displayed in UTF-8. I did a lot of fiddling with it without success but it eventually resolved itself. Whether my fiddling wa...

Re: Linux 20 Cinnamon taskbar

And, what might complicate things even more is there are indications that Linux might one day add the new Chrome based Edge! Cool huh? I read that unsettling news just recently. Once they get a toe in the door ....... I live with the silly DDG name. It's a good search engine and I even have it set ...

Re: Linux 20 Cinnamon taskbar

That will certainly work if you want to have Google Chrome installed as a browser rather than using Firefox which comes with Linux Mint. If the OP only wants to use the Google search engine, it is much better just to add it to Firefox as the default search engine. I'm not a Google fan so I use Firef...
