Re: Max 100mbit/s - hardware limit on +5 year laptop?

You can have a cat5E or even a Cat 6 or higher but if you have even a single bad wire out of the 8 wires it will negotiate to the lower speed . It takes 8 good wires to negotiate gig speeds .

Re: External ethernet card not getting max speed.

Do you have it plugged into a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port on the pc ? This is going to make a big difference too . Also make sure you are using a good cat 6 cable . If you have even one bad conductor it will downgrade the connection speed to 100 megabits per second which means you have it maxed if that ...

Re: Anyone use Libreweb? free open source internet

It's someones pipedream . No one has the kind of money it would take build out a nationwide wireless standalone network . Even then you still have to hook into the conventional internet . Musk is trying to build out a sattelite network but that is the only thing I know about . Even that is not witho...

Mint 20.1 hidden ssid wifi fix

I see they have fixed the issue in 20.1 where if you had hidden ssid's you had to input the info for the hidden network everytime you powered on the laptop . It now remembers the parameters and works normally and comes up on its own . This issue appeared sometime after 18.3 because when I went to 20...

Re: Extremely slow Internet after LM 20 install

Try going into Driver manager , ADMIN --> DRIVER MANAGER . See if their is a wireless driver for your realtek setup . If so select it , apply it and then reboot and see if anything changes . I sort of had this issue on my Dell laptop until I used the Broadcom mint driver .

Re: Network Manager problem with auto connecting to wifi with hidden SSID

I see the same issue on LM20 and hidden ssid . This behavior has changed since 19.2 . It would automatically connect on a hidden ssid without issue in 19.2 so I am running thru this thread to see if anything can be done . It also automatically connects with the default driver and just seems to be an...

Recently upgraded to LM 20 and the broadcom wifi is slow. On my connection with wifes laptop with Win 7 and realtek N card it will download almost 90 meg . On my laptop with the broadcom bcm4313 N card it will only download about 35 meg . Is there anything I can do to improve this ? If it comes down...

I find Opera as fastest in rendering pages and the one I use the most . Also have Chromium, and Google Chrome and Firefox. I use FF the least because I dont like the missing up and down page arrows on the right side .
