Re: Linux Mint 13 Broadcom 4312 low power

Just want to chime in a thank you for "install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer". I am on a Dell with broadcom card and was about to give up on LMDE13. Connecting perfectly with wireless now.

Re: Wireless firmware

Did you get your wireless to work? I have exact same laptop and exact same problem.

I have b43-fwcutter installed, but it still shows as firmware missing when I try to connect via wireless.

Thanks for any help.

Re: almost have MS word 2010 running with Wine, but not quit

Yea, I've searched around some there, but no solutions; everyone has a slightly different problem, and everyone has a different attempted solution. I could not register for the WineHQ forums myself. Some users do report success installing 2010 via Wine, and I got closer than I have ever before.

almost have MS word 2010 running with Wine, but not quite

I am playing around with Wine, mostly because I want to see if I can get OneNote to run. Using this guide http://wine-reviews.net/wine-reviews/applications/how-to-install-microsoft-office-2010-on-linux-with-wine.html I am running Mint 12 as a virtual machine, and this is the first time I have gotten...

Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers - Install Guide

I wish I could say the same! I do not know what I screwed up, but I was stuck at command line, and none of the solutions I tried from there did anything at all. I finally gave up on Mint, and I have been using Mint since version 5. I installed Ubuntu, choose F6 when booting off of live CD, disable n...

Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers - Install Guide

Man! That did not do it either, still stuck at terminal.

Would it hurt to start all over? Follow all the steps again (of course this time I will be at command line, not in terminal)?
Any other ideas?

Thanks for the response.

Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers - Install Guide

I am also stuck at the command line. I followed instructions in the 1st post of this discussion. When that bombed my system, I did: sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-kernel-dkms and then did sudo nvidia-xconfig That did me no good. I am still stuck at the command line. What else can I try? Thanks for any...

Installing Latest Nvidia Driver into Linux Mint 12

Thanks for your post.

I am having a problem. I have to stop gdm3. Then I run the NVIDIA-Linux file, choose "accept", but then I get message "receiving signal SIGTERM; aborting.

Then I sudo reboot, but still cannot get resolution I should have.

Can someone help?

Many thanks

applications vs menu dropdown

Hello All, I am not sure what the proper terms are, so please bear with me. I have a few different versions of LM installed as virtual machines (LM 11-Gnome, LM 11 LXDE, LM XFCE, LM 12) . One of these is LM 11 - Gnome. With it, there is a drop down for applications, but there is also a "menu" button...

Re: Logitech Marble mouse working in other distro, not Mint

Sorry, I did not write that last post very well, I am still using Mint Debian edition, but when installing xorg-core, or one of those, it changed the desktop and splash screen. The little help box that pops up with Mint is still displaying, no programs changed etc. At any rate, it looks like creatin...

Re: Logitech Marble mouse working in other distro, not Mint

None of that worked, but I now have a new pretty Debian desktop replacing my Mint desktop.

Anyway, what I finally did was open gedit in a terminal, and created a vmmouse.conf file in the xorg.conf.d folder. I then rebooted, and I have the scroll feature I wanted. Very nice.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Logitech Marble mouse working in other distro, not Mint

I do not have the vmmouse.conf file. I tried to install as you suggested, and got this in terminal: mike@desktop_build ~ $ sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse [sudo] password for mike: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages ...

Logitech Marble mouse working in other distro, not Mint

Hello All, I found info on how to make my Logitech Mouse buttons configured differently than the default, I want a scroll feature. With Mint, by default, the 2 "extra" buttons are a back and a forward function. I found that in BodhiLinux I could go to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/vmmouse.conf And edit...

Re: disappointed: issues with network connection

It would appear I need the firmware-b43-installer installed. Problem is, I of course need an internet connection to do the installation, which is exactly what I am missing. There are some great how-to's in the other thread. One Ubunutu how-to gave instructions to find the file on the installation cd...

disappointed: issues with network connection

Have played around with some distros using virtual box, and have been dual-booting LMGnome on desktop. Thought I would try out LM xfce on laptop dual booting. I also tried Bodhi, and it allowed me to connect to my home wireless, but not LM. LM has never let me down before. So I get: mike@dell_1555:~...

Re: boot directly into 11.04 instead of XP ..... again

I have used startup manager. Open it up when in Mint, set which one you want to boot 1st.

I have very little experience, but it has worked for me.

can't upgrade via terminal

Hello All, I am running LM Debian dual boot, and have been for several months now. Today I tried to use the terminal to update and then upgrade. When upgrading, I get to a point where I get a message about "now we recommend to use modern Japanses font packages such as" and goes on with a list of a f...
