Trouble running Hearthstone with Lutris on 18.3, any help?
Hi all, For the past couple of days I have been trying to install and run Hearthstone on my machine (Mint 18.3 Sylvia, Cinnamon 64-bit) without success. I have tried several tutorials and my understanding is that the most viable option at the moment is Lutris (+Wine), however I keep encountering two...

Available resolutions restricted to 640x480 following fan tweaking [NVIDIA issue]
Hi all. I have been struggling with my laptop fans for a while, having them going on at full speed at random moments with constant usage despite a lack of temperature increase (I have been testing the fans keeping an eye on the temperature with sensors and cannot find a reason why my fans go mental ...

Is there a browser supporting Microsoft Silverlight?
Hi all, A website that is vital to my job needs Microsoft Silverlight to run (...) and I am lost. I am currently using my Win partition every time I need to access said website, using the oldest version of Explorer possible. Needless to say, after weeks on Mint every time I boot up Win a part of me ...

Re: Laptop suddenly shuts down when battery reaches 50%
The question I might ask, is... How critical is battery life to you? If you are on the road all day, then it may well be so, but, it you are like me, Lappy stays plugged in 99% of the time anyway and rarely do I use it at all, so restricted battery life is no real issue. I use it for both academic ...

Re: Laptop suddenly shuts down when battery reaches 50%
Could be a dying battery, or a hiccup in the battery firmware.... Maybe you can achieve some improvement by removing the battery from your laptop, waiting five minutes and then re-assembling it. When no avail: check the website of the laptop manufacturer for a BIOS update and when available, instal...

Laptop suddenly shuts down when battery reaches 50%
Hi all, My first week on Mint has been great. I feel like my laptop has come alive again, the improvement in performance since I switched from Win10 has been unreal and overall I am satisfied as well as am grasping a good understanding of the OS (thanks to this community mainly). A couple of days ag...

Re: Can't view files across partitions
Nah that's just a way of showing hidden folders in Linux.... anything with a dot at the start .folderNAME will be hidden. You could try in terminal ll add a space then drag a folder into the Window and hit enter, that should list the folder/drives contents. If there are lots of folders and files yo...

Can't view files across partitions
Hi all, I am trying to move some files from my Windows partition to the Mint one. I can freely access the Windows partition and navigate through it with no problem, but most folders are either empty or some files appear to be missing, and I cannot wrap my head around it. To be more specific, I am lo...

If that doesn't do the trick, it might need the "nomodeset" instructions presented in the same page.

Re: Endless boot from USB drive
...have you first disabled Secure Boot & Fast Boot under BIOS? ... I have not. I'm quite the ignorant when it comes to these things, never took up an interest in computing and was kind of hoping to get better by playing around with Linux. Trial and error kind of situation. So, disable Secure Boot &...

Endless boot from USB drive
Hi all, I am trying to install LM 18.3 for the first time, and after following the user guide (download, verification and burning the ISO) I tried to boot from USB. My screen is currently sitting on a black background with the LM logo in the middle, and has been for the past half hour. I know that b...
