Re: CronJob "shutdown" not running.

it should work if run from the root crontab - accessed via sudo crontab -e Thank you, that was it! God, how many times have I been caught out by not including "sudo" before everything because the instructions I was given didn't include it. I didn't think to try it because "crontab -e" is just editi...

CronJob "shutdown" not running [SOLVED]

My command "shutdown -P now" works fine from within a new terminal. Setting it as a cron job doesn't do anything though. I want it to run at 8:30pm, 9:30pm, and 10:30pm, Sunday to Thursday, so I type "crontab -e" and add this line at the bottom; 30 20,21,22 * * 0-4 shutdown -P now I was advised to s...

Re: Following install instructions, what Ubuntu version?

If you are still getting that error, that first repository hasn't been deleted yet . . :? E: Failed to fetch https://dl.bintray.com/itchio/deb/dists/{distribution}/{components} Same as your first Bintray entry in Software Sources . . You didn't perhaps add it somewhere else too? Re: Following install instructions, what Ubuntu version?

In your Software Sources picture, please delete that very first entry for Bintray. Then don't forget to click the "Update the cache" button before you close. Done. As for the original problem, can anyone help? I still can't run the Itch client, after following the instructions to the letter. Here's...

Re: Following install instructions, what Ubuntu version?

Thanks guys - well focusing on the Xenial option and including the update command seems to have gotten me further, but there are still errors. Also correct me if I missed something, but I don't see the part where they actually tell you how to run it. I typed "itch" and got an error. Here's me follow...

Following install instructions, what Ubuntu version?

I'm trying to install the Itch.io game browser client, and the instructions provided are for Ubuntu / Debian. I know enough that Linux Mint is based off Ubuntu, so I've chosen those set of instructions over the Fedora etc. ones. https://itch.io/docs/itch/installing/linux/ubuntu-and-debian.html The p...

Tomboy - hide from taskbar, only show in tray?

Hi guys,

Coming from Windows 7, I like the note behaviour where they don't clutter up the taskbar - but if you want to bring them all to the front, you can click the tray icon.

Is there any way to make TomBoy behave like this?

Re: Wildcard (asterisk) search seems different than Windows?

Thanks guys. Hmm wow, that is kinda surprising... this point in particular might make it a hard sell when introducing this as a Windows alternative to my brothers and my friend (who are getting increasingly annoyed at Windows 10, hence me setting out on this endeavor) Though it's not the end of the ...

Re: Change display format of date in tray? [SOLVED]

Hi Domarius, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. Thank you :) Yes I will keep that list of links in my notes with the others. This has been very helpful. BTW Why did you personally choose KDE? The only thing I know is Cinnamon is more smooth and s...

Re: Change display format of date in tray?

Change the contents of the format value from 12-hour to custom . The change is immediate, no need to log out. forgot to mention my format was in 24hr if you want it displayed 9:35 PM use %Y-%m-%d, %I:%M %p hope i calculated that right (i'm not in mate right now) as catweazel mentioned you'll need t...

Wildcard (asterisk) search seems different than Windows?

I have a folder of files, and I want to just find the ones that end in ".import". I hit the search button, and type *.import But I get no results. If I remove the asterisk and just type "import" I find all the files. Fortunately in this case it did match all the files that ended in .import, but if t...

Re: Change display format of date in tray?

Thank you so much for the clear instructions and screenshots. It didn't seem to work but perhaps it's due to a difference between our versions, like you said?

I made the change, nothing happened, so I restarted, and it's still the same, here's a screenshot.

Change display format of date in tray? [SOLVED]

My date is shown at the bottom left of the screen as: Wed Jun 6 And I'd like it to display as: 2018-06-06 In Windows there was a spot where I could do something like: "yyyy-mm-dd" to customise the format, is there a similar feature in Linux Mint somewhere? I'm having trouble finding the answer anywh...

Re: Can't drag shortcut to "Quick menu" area

Ah thanks guys. I got it now. Right click on what you want added to the panel, and select "Add to panel." That's a good quick way. Although it always inserts from the left of the separator, and still leaves me wondering how to move it around. the panel in mate can be tricky. you need to rightclick t...

Can't drag shortcut to "Quick menu" area [SOLVED]

This is really annoying... mint drag panel bug.gif Dragging a shortcut onto this area to be with the other icons there, seems to create a "new panel" that destroys the rest of the taskbar! To get the taskbar back I have to delete the icon again. You can even see the panel become "selected", insinuat...

Re: Grub2 used to dual boot, but deleted partition and UUID is bad on subsequent installs [SOLVED]

I'm now sucessfully booting with Grub2 and can choose Linux or Windows 7... and it only took me 3 days straight to work out why. There should be a big red note somewhere on the install, saying - "Don't install to a GPT drive if you're booting from an MBR drive." The sad thing is I've come across qui...

Re: Install alongside Windows 7 always fails [SOLVED]

Solution: You can’t boot off an MBR formatted drive and then run an operating system on a GPT formatted drive. If you have any MBR drives, only install Linux (or any other operating system) to one of the MBR drives. To work out which is which; Windows - in Computer Management, Disk Management, righ...
